Title: Electrical problems
Post by: Jimbob on November 21, 2014, 02:40:56 AM
So last night on my way home the headlight stopped working however the high beam still works. I took the bulb out and it looks ok. The other problem is when I turn the ignition key on it takes a few seconds before the oil light comes on as where before it used to come on straight away. The oil loght issue did start a few days before the headlight issue. Could these be related?
What should I start checking to resolve these?
Thanks

Get a multimeter and test the low beam positive wire going to the headlight bulb. If you have 12v + coming from that wire, than your bulb burnt out. I know you said the bulb looks fine, but "to measure is to know".

As far as the oil light goes, that's an odd one. There really shouldn't be any delay when you flip the key. So I'm at a loss on that.

I tested it and it's just the headlight bulb not sure about the oil loght though. Could it be the oil sensor is on its way out?

I don't think so. IIRC, the only test for the oil sensor is continuity (so it is either good or bad, no in between).

My oil light takes a minute to come on... Always been that way.
