Title: Yoshimura
Post by: PantheraLeo on December 12, 2014, 07:32:09 AM
I've been lusting after this item for some time now, but I couldn't justify purchasing a 300 exhaust for a 1200 dollar bike.

I found one listed on eBay for 274 with free shipping, plus I had a 10% off coupon...$246 shipped.  I can't wait for it to get here.  Still kind of ludicrous, but what's 'rational' about a 44 year old guy driving a quasi-sport bike?

Tell me about it. Some of the cheapest titanium exhausts for my ZRX1100 go for $1400 or so, which is way more than half of what I paid for the bike itself.

Hope you enjoy the exhaust, they make the GS sound a little better than stock.

A fair point, to be sure.  I am justifying the splurge on this because:

1) I upgraded my rear shock to a Kat 600 for 35 bucks.
2) My Sonic Springs were purchased for 60 or 65 dollars shipped.
3) My total cost to repaint and repair my fairings appears to be 78 dollars. (not sure how it will turn out just yet...)

My ability to handle those items "on the cheap" in my mind justifies this one luxury purchase.  I've heard a Yoshi on a GS 500.  I have compared it to a V&H, and the Delkevic.  There is a significant difference in the sounds of these three models.  I'm told the Yoshi is apparently the best option, and so I have decided to go that route.  This will perhaps be the last significant upgrade I make to the bike.  Will I get my money back out of the bike if/when I sell it for this upgrade?  Not all of it, maybe some of it.

The thing is, I think I am keeping this bike for a while, so if my total cost of the bike is 1200 plus 400 or so...I am good with that.  But I struggled to pull the trigger for the same reasons you have, sir.

how did you get your springs so cheap?
that seems to be the price that the shock is going for nowadays.
I actually just purchased my delkevic exhaust for $150 off fleebay

I guess I'm a cheap bastard lol,

then again I do have to replace my rotors so I'm trying not to spend so much money on other things.

I got my sonics from Amkluttz's part out on this site!  They are in outstanding shape, and the right stiffness for my 211 pounds.

Blacksburg for school, parents live in Manassas where I'll probably end up moving back to next year.

I got a yoshimura tri oval exhaust, I love that thing! It definitely made the bike a lot more throaty and worth it for sure. I would say it's one of the more worthwhile investments!

you can drill a couple of holes in the exhaust as well, for a better sound.

If it's to quiet with the restrictors in and to loud with the restrictors out try cutting them down by 10mm at a time till u get your suitable loudness(riding hard between cuts)

+1

On changing the restrictor plate size.  I've got V&H on my bike.  Really like the sound but they make to much noise (to me) when you really get on the throttle.  I put in a restrictor plate (changed size and holes until I got the sound I wanted).

Do a search.....there is a thread somewhere that has clips of the sound of several different exhausts.

I Think this was the best $400 I've ever spent. Changed the whole dynamic of the bike.

Or Maybe it's all in my head.

Either way, their seems to be less SMIDSY in the year or so that I've had it fitted  :woohoo:

I had to look that one up.

SMIDSY is "Sorry Mate, I Didn't See You" if anyone else is confused.  Cheers, I get it now.

I'm glad that you love yours.

I am even more glad I didn't pay 400 bucks for it...but I would have if I had to.

It was the cheapest I could find in Australia, also just got my tax return back so it was a good excuse :)

Well, it came today.  I took the afternoon off to enjoy installing it and then took a nice ride.

It sounds very nice.  Definitely deeper and growly compared to how the stock muffler sounded.  I also feel like the bike has a bit more pep in its step, although it could be my imagination.

Here it is:

Looks great.  I had one on my ninja 250 and hated it.  The noise was all exhaust and engine.  Loved it on the SV though.  It really enhanced the vtwin growl.  Thinking I might stick with stock on the GS.  I actually think its a pretty good note.  Not loud or quiet, slightly deep, and quiet enough that I can start it late at night and ride without pissing off the neighbors :thumb:

Whatever works for you, NYNJ.  I will tell you, the noise with the full baffle in the Yoshi isn't too much louder.  I'm actually considering chopping the baffle just a little bit.

But, if you like the stock, its already paid for...so...

Sorry, didn't mean to be an ass...I'm still on the fence about an exhaust and I'm interested in hearing from other people who have made changes to I appreciate this thread.  Cheers

Hi  guys  ,   with  yoshimura  selling  a lot of slip-ons  ,  why not sell the complete  system  ( full exhaust system )  ?   there  is only  two complete exhaust systems I have seen so far , which have  the  thick flange mounts (same thickness as stock )  (head pipes )   is the Motad  from  U.K.   and   Cobra  from  australia .  when you bolt-up downpipes  same length bolts can be used,( do to the same thickness of flange mounts to down pipes )   check out  the full system on cobra website in australia  , downpipes  alone are $ 500.00  boy do they look good ,  I  really like the laser deeptone   , however  small thickness  flange for the down pipes  ( need shorter bolts )  as  far as sound and performance  on the rest of my bikes  , I have  Bassani  full systems ........  now if I can get 25 orders down, ( minimum order for custom exhaust ) Bassani  will make a complete system  for  2007 gs500f  ........   Merry Christmas  everybody   from  RG500 Gamma

It is the TRS (tri oval)

My bike came with a Dynojet Stage 1 Jet Kit.  The PO told me I needed to replace the stock exhaust...He told me many things.  Some of which turned out to be total hogwash.

However, on this one thing it would seem he was correct.  The bike was helped by the addition of the Yoshi, I am pretty sure.  I definitely notice a difference in how the bike pulls.  Maybe that is in my head, but I think it is noticeably better from about 4k up.  I am very happy with the purchase.  The sound is even better after a few hours of ride time.  I am now thinking I won't need to chop the baffle at all.  We'll see.

It's a small increase, but if you really knew your bike you would definitely feel it! I dropped a K&N filter with my yoshimura and re jetted and I really felt it.
