Title: Should I Replace My Fork Seals?
Post by: JAS6377 on December 14, 2014, 02:32:38 PM
I'm thinking about pulling the forks to change the oil while the weather sucks and I can't ride. My fork seals don't seem to be leaking at all, but I imagine they are still the factory seals (2004, 10k ish miles, and I haven't touched them since 2011). Would there be any harm in cleaning things up and replacing the seals now so I don't have to later? I've always been a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of guy, but I'm also lazy, and I don't want to have to pull the forks again until they need the oil changed. Thoughts?

I changed mine out when I swapped the forks.  I replaced the dust covers, too.  It just seemed to make sense.  My bike is an '05...I have no idea when/if they were changed previously.  I would do it if I were you.

Fork seals are cheap, and really easy to do once the forks are already off the bike. I say go for it, even just for the peace of mind.

That's what I was thinking, too. I'd rather not get halfway through next summer thinking I have good seals just to have them start leaving on me. Looks like I'll be gathering parts with my next paycheck. Working overnight for the next two weeks is gonna be hell, but it lets me keep my toys lol.

Thanks, guys!
