Title: WTB indicator light cap
Post by: vasama on December 26, 2014, 01:27:28 PM
Guys, I'm looking for a plastic cap for one of the indicator lights. It can be yellow, green, or blue, it doesn't matter. Hoping someone has a spare that I can buy.

Thanks

Mauricio

1. search, this has been covered many times.
2. seriously, search!
3. okay, enough....hit Radio Shack and look for a lamp holder in the color you want. Cut off the dome and glue it in place.
I haven't tried this myself, since all my indicators are good, but I've heard it's a cheap way to get things back in fairly close order.
4. search. Sorry, couldn't help myself. :)

I didn't ask how to fix or make one. I clearly stated that I want to buy one. Now, if you have one for sale, tell me how much it is. If you don't, then what are you doing in this thread? This is the board for buying and selling stuff. No need to be condescending here.

I was merely giving you an option, since if you SEARCH the existing threads, you'll see that these parts generally aren't available.
Therefore, in an effort to be some help to you, I suggested a way you might be able to solve your problem without a months-long hunt or laying out serious cash for a silly piece of plastic.
Take my advice or not, it's nothing to me either way, but leave your attitude at the door, I don't have time for it.

P.S.: I have one for sale, it's $100 with free shipping. Make you feel better?

I'm sorry, everyone else, that my simple thread got a troll right off the gate. Still, let me know, anyone, if you have one of those plastic caps. Thanks

Mauricio

Well after that I certainly would think twice before helping/dealing with Mauricio!

You told him to search five separate times, using capital letters for emphasis on occasion, then offered him a part that you ostensibly do not have for $100. He's at fault for something?

What difference does it make how rare the part is? Can he not post a WTB thread?

I'm wondering because as a new member I've seen no rule preventing posting a WTB for any part, rare or not. I'd send him the part if I had it, and I'll keep an eye out. Just IMO.

There was absolutely no call to label Elmojo a "troll". Simple!

I wasn't trying to imply that he couldn't ask for a part, I was just trying to help him see (low post count, like me, so he may not know already) that the part is very rare, and it might be easier to make one than try to hunt for one.
I've been active on many forums over the years, and many of them have a search feature that doesn't work very well. This forum isn't one of those. The search feature here is VERY good and I've been able to answer nearly all my questions without posting new topics. Not knowing the OP, I didn't know if he assumed the search on this site sucked like on others, and figured it would be easier to ask.
I meant no offense, but I was taken aback by the way he attacked me right off the bat.
Let's put it behind us and see if we can find him an indicator cap.

By the way, vasama, you mentioned that you don't care about color. Why is that?
Are you looking for all the indicator caps, or do you figure that any cap, even the wrong color, is better than none?

I applaud this.

Anything but red will work, thanks.

I accept the 'let's move forward' gesture.

Asking to search several times assumes that the OP hasn't done it, and also that he ignores that they're rare. My low post count is due to the fact that I prefer to remain silent if I have nothing of value to add to any given conversation. I have, however, helped once or twice.

I've been a member of this forum for a few years , and I'm in the process of refreshing my GS. I lost a cap. I will be trying to 3D-print a replacement this weekend. We'll see how it goes.

Again, I appreciate the peace.

Mauricio

3D printing sounds like an interesting idea.

Make one, simple. We used to paint 1034 clear bulbs to save 25 cents a bulb. If you want a replacement, you have to buy the whole fascia panel. Something like $127 plus shipping (bike bandit). It might take 30 minutes to an hour to do it.

I've done it and would do it again. What's the big deal?

No big deal at all. I simply asked, in the BUY AND SELL board, that I'd like to BUY one, should anyone have a spare, no matter how rare they are. If I wanted advise on how to make one, I'd have posted in a different board.

What's wrong with that?
