Title: Urgent help with transmission part identification please
Post by: GSRiderDad on January 19, 2015, 03:46:16 PM
Can anyone please help me identify the small rod pictured below that fell out of the input shaft when I turned it on end? I cannot find it in the diagram in my Haynes manual and I just want to be sure there's no extra steps involved for putting it back other than sliding it into the middle of the shaft. I'm in the middle of a rebuild of my 97 and I'm ready to reassemble the crankcase halves so any help as soon as possible would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It's got to be either the shifter shaft (#4 on first image), or the clutch pushrod (#20 on the second image)

Aha... That's it. Not the shifter shaft because I already have the selector forks installed in the new crankcase with that. I believe you're right about the clutch pushrod. Thanks a million. You saved me a major headache when I attempt to put the clutch back on and can't find it. I vaguely remember it slipping in when I took the clutch off as I started this project almost a year ago.   :icon_lol:
