looks like my frame mounted petcock is leaking fuel...i don't see the exact spot but i think it's leaking for the little knob on the petcock so now i got to replace that...i am gonna buy a shut off valve from a store and run a straight line from the tank to the carbs (like some people did) but i just wanted to make sure with everyone here...
what are good and bad things about running a straight line with a shut off valve?
The shut off valve can work just as well but you have to remember to shut it off everytime you shut off the bike. If not, some fuel will leak by the needle valve inside the carb and at the very least spill gas on the ground. It might also cause the engine to flood.
You would also lose the reserve function - unless you get a valve with two inlets. This wouldn't be a bad thing IMO. I wish there was no "reserve" because the tank is so small to begin with.

well i could hook up the line from RES in the tank petcock and then to the carbs...right?
what's the difference between puting your frame petcock to PRI and having a line from the tank to the carbs? on PRI the fuel flows to the carbs too and it donsn't do any damange ( i think?) or am I leaving my petcock in the wrong possition....when i turn off my bike i put the petcock on PRI...is that right?
Leaving it in prime, you stand the chance of it doing just what Rob says, or worse, filling your engine with gas! Prime is for starting the bike, once it's running switch it over to main.
so how do you stop the fuel from going to the carbs? what should i do when i park the bike?
thanks

You should be running and parking the bike in ON (or RES). PRI, is really just to prime the carbs w/ fuel when they're empty (like after pulling them). So you should be leaving it in ON when you shut the bike off. When the bike is off, there is no vaccum pressure to suck fuel, so fuel delivery is essentilly off. If you turn it to PRI, gravity (instead of vacuum) pulls the fuel down to the carbs, so even w/ the bike off, fuel goes to the carbs, possibly causing flooding. Although, I've left it in PRI w/ out incident.
The question then is, if you have removed the suzuki petcock and have put in an inline valve with only an on/off switch. If you left it in the on postion you would be doing the same thing as if you had left it in Prime position of a standard petcock?
-btw I have a inline valve becaus emy standard suzuki petcock diaphram got blocked with gunk. The mechanic who rigged it up put i assume the Reserve hose into the inline vlave and the other end into the hose that goes to the carb.
He blocked the other hose ( i assume the main gfuel hose) with a screw and clampded it off.
1) will this pass registration like this or will i need to remove the other hose?
2) becuase my bike isn't using any vacuum in the fuel system anymore is this going to be a problem?

You should have no truble with registration. The only thing they check is that all your electrics work. Ex. horn, signals, brakes come on when either brake is used.
Not having a vacuum line to your fuel system won't make any difference. I'm assuming that the mechanic plugged the vacuum line that runs from the carb to the petcock (otherwise your bike would not run too well).
Rob
Nup, he only plugged a petrol hose.
He completely removed a long skinny hose.
The bike runs as good as it ever did :) better since it no longer dies after a few minutes of riding.
