After 2 long arse years, I'm finally meeting the woman of my dreams (and occasional nightmares) next week. All the flights are organised, her bags are packed, and she's ready to roll.
I've been talking to this girl for a total of 25 months now, we're practically inseparable from our phones or Skype to speak to each other. Everyone I know at home has taken a fairly distinct dislike to her, for whatever reason they have (Jealousy?), but f%$k it.
Wish me luck, lads and ladies of the GS world. This will be the greatest and scariest moment of my life to date.
Everyone you know distinctly dislikes her?
Man, I'm no expert on relations, but that sounds like a red flag.
In any case, I'm sure you cannot be dissuaded. The heart is a willful and powerful thing, and cannot be denied easily. Good luck, I hope it goes well.

Give us somemore info,...? I'm envisioning like a mail order bride thing? :dunno_white:

Haha, no not a mail order bride. I met her online playing World of Warcraft (10 years of my life WASTED). We started talking after she mentioned she was feeling down, just having gotten her self out of an "abusive" relationship (I don't know the specifics here, I never really probed into it since it did really seem to affect her). We've been talking ever since, and finally we think it's time to actually meet in person for the first time and see how we get along in the real world.
Although, she could potentially be mistaken for a mail order bride. She looks slightly russian, and shes pretty hot.

Thing is, no-one I know has even met her, not one of my friends has met her in person. Their main complaint, as far as I can work out, is that I met her online, rather than face to face, so I can't know her as well as if I did meet her in real life straight off the bat.
Either way, as you said, I'm not sure there is any going back from this. It's not permanent at this stage, it's just a tester to see how we get along when we are together. If we don't try it, we will never know.
Hope it works out for you bro. .. I met my missus online. . But she was only in the next town....
Safeguard yourself financially and personally until you are sure after meeting her. ..
Russians. .. hot women! But sometimes scammy! ?
INteresting story! Was talking to a coworker yesterday about Warcraft. He said it was fun but basically you have to live that game to be any good. 10 years? Hory crap. I thought 200 hours into Fallout 3 & New Vegas was bad,...:icon_eek:
I hope things work out for you & her. I met my exwife online and did 15 years before escaping! heheh just kidding. I hope things go good for you. Sounds like you're doing it maturely, seeing how things go first. Just remember a relationship, marriage is work. It isn't all fun dreamy bliss. Fookin hard, patient work sometimes. People think thing's will just work out because they love each other. When it doesn't, people don't know how to handle it. Life always brings unexpected things to the table. Work as a team, be as open as possible, and trustworthy. Ain't easy. I can go on and on. My experience comes from my 15 years with my ex who was a good woman in her own way, but she and I had different perspectives on alot of issues. My wife now, I realize that trust & working as a team together builds on our foundation. We 'choose' how we relate, how we react, how we perceive, etc etc. It's a choice to be positive or negative. :2guns: I'm writing a damm book on your post. My bad. Good luck sir!

I like to think it's happening maturely. I'm not expecting it to be easy, it's been hard enough as a long distance thing so far.
I'm aware of the pit falls of relationships. They are bloody hard work. But it's worth it for the right one. I was engaged for 2 years once before, then my fiancee went and got it on with a bloke she met at the pub. I was away for work. Good times.
Well, for those interested, I have returned to the land of the forums!
To say the last week was an interesting experience would be an understatement.
It far exceeded my expectations. Suffice it to say it was more than worth the 2 year wait to finally see her in person. She was here for a week, we did stuff (way too numerous to list), went for a spin on the bike; which she loved. We also had our first argument, which surprisingly was about the ride. She didn't want to wear the pants I had cause "It's already 30 outside, and you want me to put what on?!"
"Gear more important than comfort. Gravel in your knees f%$king hurts, and skin grafts suck."
Since I can count on one hand the number of times I've had a pillion on the GS, I was adamant that we both wear everything we could. She relented, while we didn't have a topple, I think I made my point. I wasn't going to be responsible for her going back home missing all her skin. People might think I'm a cannibal or something.
She now wants to pursue a proper relationship, and is now looking at jobs down my way so she can move down later this year.
So all in all, a pretty damn good week :D
Good job that man!
Sweet!!! Hope it all works out for you... and I totally agree with wearing the proper gear :thumb:

Good form on standing your ground on the gear. She's gonna respect that.
So, did she meet any of your friends while she was in town, and, how did that go? Any of them warm up to her?

We met a couple of friends around town. Most were pretty cool with it, maybe they got over their issues when they saw the grin on my face when I introduced her? One took exception to it, claiming she was just playing with me and she had no intention of ever coming back, and that this was just a big game for her. I fail to see it. You don't travel 1200 kilometers to toy with someone like that.
And agreed on the gear. I've squided a few times in the past, just a helmet, t-shirt and normal jeans, but I think she needed to hear what I had to say about the topic. I've seen first hand what happens when you don't wear the correct gear, and it ain't pretty at all. It's downright terrifying.
You are worried about how this will work out?
Heh... She is just as worried as you are.
On your first meeting you can be sure she is playing her best hand, so it will take a while to find out what she is truly like, and vice versa.
You may indeed screw this up, or perhaps she will.
Or maybe you two will survive your ups & downs and end up spending the rest of your life together. ;)
It's an adventure!
Keep us updated on how this all works out.
Cool thread too!

Ha! She played her best hand alright. It'll take some time to figure each other out, but her being here for a week gave us both a taste of what was to come, and we both liked what we got.
Indeed, one of us might screw it up, and truth be told, it will probably be me if it does happen. But regardless, what's life without a little adventure? A little fun? Life's to short to think about what ifs. And as said before, we will never know if we don't try. We've gone 2 years apart so far as a long distance thing, and when I drove to Sydney to get her, it was just like we were talking on the phone again. Ya know, except I could actually see her smile when I turned on the charm :P
Oh, and I could actually hold her for the first time ever.
She's told me she wants to be down here by the end of April, not too far away in the scheme of things.
With any luck, you'll be right EJ, and we will survive whatever ups and downs we come across, and we have each other for the rest of our lives. We've seen enough of each other in the week she was here that we want this to move forward, and see where it takes us. The fact she had fun on the bike and asked "Whens this Snowy thing you keep going on about? I wanna come!" already means she's a keeper in my book.
Besides, getting to wake up, rolling over and seeing her next to me in my bed in the morning was, single handedly, the GREATEST feeling ever. I'd drive or ride the 1200 k's just for that again. In 2 months or so, maybe I won't have to go anywhere but home. Until then, I'll just have to suffice with sleeping with the CAT THAT WON'T FÜCK OFF OUT OF MY ROOM SINCE SHE LEFT! Maybe he misses her too?
Sounds like it has already been a very positive experience.
Let the adventure unfold! :thumb:
BTW; what's the cats name?
Tori, but it should be called Buyers Remorse. I've never had a cat that eats as much as this one does. All it does is eat. Every 5 minutes, I hear him crunching away on food, then he wants outside, he's out for 15 minutes, wants back in, more food, rinse and repeat.
Nah, he's a cool cat. I think he just liked the attention she gave him while she was here.
Cats be hungry no doubt, but... that often?
Sounds like worms or hairball??
Tough worms if that's the case. He likes the chewable tablets.
Hair balls i can't confirm or deny. He's always eaten a lot, and he's a rather large cat. Not fat, but pretty bloody big. It's not like he empties the bowl everytime he comes inside, but if I ate as often as he does, I'd be the size of a barn.
He is only 18 months old. I'd say he's got some growing left to do before he turns into a normal everyday lounge cat.
Not worms then. . Cat I used to have would regular (but not frequent) get hairball.. eat eat eat, go outside and vomit unseen mostly, back in.. eat eat eat... out and back in again. . Etc
After a week or so he'd sit around looking glum, then retch for a bit, eat grass stalks.. vomit..
Vet said hairball, operation about $200 but if common occurrence then expensive.. so vet recommend hairball formula dry food/biscuits added to diet... mostly chicken and fibre in them, and something to help cat vomit the ball, few days later a large mouse size wad of hair comes up.. happy cat again!.. till next time and straight onto special food. . Worked for us!?
Vet check is good idea though
went from meeting a lady to a cat lol
Well I was trying to keep his mind off missing his lady! .... oh darn!

Hahaha! This is why I love you guys! :P
Cat was at the Vets today, and he recommended the same thing as you got Janx, hairball food, and see how he goes. He's still got some growing to do (vet analysis, he's the vet for both of the parents of this particular animal), but he is a fluffy cat (half ragdoll). He's still spritely, still annoying the shaZam! out of me, and still lazing around on the missus' pillow since she left.
I asked her how she's coming back down when she comes, wondering if the plane would do the trick and if I had another round trip to Sydney in my near future. Turns out, she can't bring everything she needs with her on a plane, so it looks like I have a 24 hour round trip ahead of me instead to pick her up and bring her back.
The things we do, huh?
If it's a hairball, then let him eat grass til he gets it up, we tried Hills Science Diet furball control but they didn't seem to do a lot... we have Birmans which is what half a Ragdoll is :thumb:
The other thing to try is Laxapet, chocolatey sweet looking goodness (for a cat) that comes in a tube and if the furball is further down it will help them... pass it.
Our 19 1/2 year old gets an inch long strip of it nightly to help her along :thumb:
Hairball food... Purina brand, worked when some others didn't?
Was talking to Mum this arvo, chit chat to this & that. .. mentioned hairballs, she always gave the cats cod liver oil capsules, greased kitty's insides somewhat but also gives their fur better condition and possibly less shedded fur to ingest?... her mum did same stuff but just spoonful in the cats food cos capsules not around back then!
Cool info! :star: Even though I've been around cats all my life, thankfully none of them ever had hairball issues... but it is always great to learn more about something ya care about!!!
Have you tried not leaving food out all the time? My mom always did that (and still does) and it resulted every time in overweight kitties. If it is there, they will eat any chance they get.
When I bought my house and moved out, I took my two cats with me and had to get them back to a normal weight (one of them has asthma and the extra weight was NOT helping). After talking with my vet, I bought a "Healthy Weight" food and I feed them a specific amount, twice a day and that is all. After 2 years, they are now at a perfect weight :thumb:
As a bonus, they get even more excited for the occasional treat now :D
Wow... we have always left food out ever since they were kittens, they only ever eat when they're actually hungry and none of them are fat at all. Oh, sorry, our 15 and 1/2 year old boy is but that's because he has issues with his back end and he doesn't get enough exercise but that's only a recent development.
Our oldest turns 20 in August... no weight issues there either...
My wife found if you raise them from the get go with food always available, they will only ever eat what they need and don't have weight issues...
We've got 2 bastards cats here. One, Tori, is pleasant, and nice to be around. The other, Shadow, I found in a box out the back of Coles, dumped. She was a nice kitten, then turned into a fur covered demon of hatred and spite. You look at her the wrong way and she will tear your kneecaps out and drink milk from them. I have scars on my arms and legs that will remind me forever never to wake a sleeping black ball of pure unadulterated hatred and violence.
Also, drunk posting. Close friend died yesterday, so drinking in remembrance to her.
Text the missus, she's out whoop whoop in the middle of buttfuck Egypt no mans land with her girlfriends so they can chat without interference from their respective partners. Don't know if good or bad thing. Women are crazy sometimes. At least she offered to be here Monday for the burial and shaZam!, but I don't want her to see my ass like this. Besides, I wouldn't be any fun. Besides, drinking is more fun when you're not worried about how other people are thinking of you.
More cheers and more beers boys. Text your friends to make sure they're ok. Now go back to posting about cats in my girl thread :P
Hope all is still going good for you!!! And I totally agree... drinking is indeed more enjoyable when other people aren't judging ;)
This is the first thread I read after my long absence(sp?).... and there are no pictures of this mystery woman?????? lol
I'm glad it's working out so far. :thumb:
It's working out well so far, thats for damn sure.
There are no pictures of this woman because I haven't uploaded her picture yet :P
I might just do that now actually...
Double post, so shoot me.

She looks nice mate, Glad you are happy :thumb: :thumb:
Bet she has an awesome laugh! ... She looks like a cheeky gal!! Well done chap! :thumb:
She does. And cheeky doesn't even come close.
She's always trying to make me smile, especially now since I'm haven't been going so well with my back recently. That keeps me going.
:thumb: :thumb:
Hmm beet pulp, if I remember right, is the ingredient in most 'hair ball' catfood diets that does the hair ball work. So look for food/treats with that.

A recent development over the past couple months in my life made me remember this thread and I wanted to check in... how are things goin' for you guys Malfruen? Still good I hope !
dammit my orange watch cat. seriously lets me know when health isnt good. hes saved my life twice so far.and again last thursday night i swear he alerted ne when my foot wound turned into septicemia doc said had i delayed coming to hosp. id likely be dead. i lovee this cat as if he were my child. to me he is. he bitched at me today when i came home for not being at home lol.
now heres a question maybe one of yall can assist me with.
i stole this cat from an abusive home. he still heats his food without chewing it. and will yak a log of solid catfood. dry. never a hairball though. trying to figure out how to stop this. he will chew it if i sit beside him and pet him. what do i do, was considering wet catfood. this does work. its pricier but if i can figure out how to cover that ill do it. i love this cat and will do whatever it takes. had him since 2009 and hope to have him for many years.
Aaron
Ahhh the solid food yak... what a treat to find lol :icon_rolleyes: Anyways, Hastey likes to eat really fast like that sometimes and I slow her down by giving her tiny amounts of food over a 5 to 10 minute period of time. But who has time for that??
Another thing I've done that works is (as you mentioned) wet food. If I buy the pate kind, put a spoonful in her dish and then put some of the crunchy food over top of it, she is forced to chew cuz the pate is so thick. Plus my cats think it's a treat!
The canned food shouldn't get too expensive if you use it with the crunchy like I do. One regular can, split 3 ways between the 3 cats, lasts me two feedings. I am sure Dammit would love it! Pet him for me ;)
