But I bought a new bike today it isn't a gs but I enjoy this forum its 2007 zx6r

I'm thinking about selling my GS soon too. The bike leaves alot to be desired in spirited riding. Its hard to have any fun out in the mountains with a suspension made of spaghetti.
I bet the zx6r loves to get tossed around in the twisties.

It's not getting good gas mileage, and neither having a great performance.
And at 480lbs loaded, is too heavy for me.
I'd either go with a SV650 or a Honda CB500x next up... (the 500 isn't that much faster, but has much better gas mileage. The SV650 has similar gas mileage, but is a lot faster.
Well...I'm getting (actually, I've bought it, just waiting on delivery of) a 2015 red FZ-07.
However, I have no intention of getting rid of my GS. Will the FZ be a better bike in the mountains? Yup...but the GS means more to me than what I could get back out of it selling it. Its great at what it does. Besides, I just really dig the bike.
By the way, McNinja, I spent maybe $150 on the suspension of the GS, and it's a whole different bike. New front springs and a Kat600 shock make it behave so much better in the twisties. Maybe you should look into it before you ditch your GS....

I like my gs it was my first bike and I put 5000 miles on it in one season but I wanted something with more power and ability to customize there's not a whole lot you can do to the gs. It's funny just by jumping a wire on the zx6r it gains around 10hp 1/4 power of the gs lol

Jumping a wire? Are you talking about a fuel mixture modification? Because I read about something similar on yamahas, specifically the fz6 and I might give it a shot later on in the year.
For my bike it goes from usa tuning to euro tuning and it was tuned down for emissions

I very much like the Less sporty 600 that kawasaki make. It might be called the er-6n?
Anyways it's a twin with a great sound ,reasonable weight and certain sporty ability.I cant justify spending much right now,but i think that's what i'd go for> The new Yam FZ8(?) looks great too
...or i might pull my finger out and make the ultralight WR450f based roadracer or even a carbon fibre boddied GS500 i've been dreaming about.One day maybe :-D

Isn't the SV just as heavy? I don't recall the weight but they both feel equal weight to me. The SV feels a little more top heavy but it could just be my imagination due to the higher tank. Anyway you certainly get more power/weight from the SV but if the weight unto itself is your issue with the GS, then the SV might not be the answer. FWIW I think I averaged 55mpg on the SV. Spirited riding easily drops that into the low/mid 40s.
My GS500F consistently got 65 Mpg compared to my Wee Strom's 53-58 Mpg.
I never calculated the gas mileage on my gs because it didn't use enough gas for it to bother me and I rode mine hard all the time

Did my gas mileage this way.... fill up, ride where and how I want, when it starts to stutter then switch to reserve on the fly, look for a fuel station, fill up. ... etc etc :thumb:
Lol I agree . Getting my new sprockets on zx6r today went -1 +2 and got colored matching chain also. Ordered a speedo healer and red galpher braided brake lines to im stoked to get it all together

Yeah, going higher than 500cc, there's little out there that weighs less than a GS.
Either a SV650, or a Honda NC700x, which has the same weight, but more power, better for the interstate, better riding position on the NC700x...
My GS500 got 35MPG when doing 80+MPH consistently... A hair better than my Chevrolet Cruze Eco, which gets about 32MPG at that speed. Granted, I still need to do a valve adjustment, but no money for it. It's got 13k+ miles on it, and counting...
I think the Honda nc700x might be more of what I need, and since I'm tall, a taller bike like that will be better for me, better seating position, lots of riders said it doesn't feel heavy because the engine has a very low center of gravity, despite the high forks/suspension. It also has unbeatable gas mileage for it's class...
But for now, I don't have the money, so I think I'll have to do with the GS.
Some sprocket changes, and soon a new handlebar for more upright seating position...
It should give me at least the idea I got a new bike, lol :icon_lol:
But in the long run, what I really want is to have one bigger (highway) bike, and one smaller (town) bike.
Initially I wanted to keep the GS500 as my highway bike, but I need a tad better than this; and get a Sym Wolf 150 as my bike for town.
But finances decided to just swap a 25t sprocket on my Honda Rebel (from 28t now), possibly getting gas mileage up from 80 to 87MPG, and it makes it much more pleasant riding at 35-45MPH (currently that bike is vibrating too much at or above 45MPH).
So I'll just keep the trusty Rebel for the smaller and comfy rides. (It's been working just fine for almost 10k miles); and keep the GS until I got the money to buy a better highway, more like a touring bike is what I want....
The SV650 actually "feels" lighter then the GS500. and I think it is by wet weight, it actually is. but I'm a small guy, I've dropped a few bikes, two being an SV650, and GS500.
to compare the two, I think because the GS500 has a lower center of gravity. then the SV650's [that has a more higher center of gravity] the Gs500 feels twice has heavy as the SV650 when lifting it from the ground [no sliders on either] and the SV650 was defo a lot easier to lift in soft sand, then the GS500 was from paved road, as well. but while ON the bike, the SV650s silly clip on's that don't allow full turning lock [your wrist hit the gas-tank] the GS500 is way more fun in slow speeds, no hands/arms hitting any gas tanks. plus it handles pretty damn well making a FULL U turn without having to stop and adjust for it.
If you wanna cut weight on an SV650. Cut off the stock exhaust and half the sub frame. and find lighter spoked rims to go on it. you are now easily under the 400lb mark. :flipoff:
edit; but if you want an I4 and are willing to do a bit of work, sounds like not though. MY personal "next" project bike. will be restoring a CBR400 [with VTEC baby!] it weighs a mere 360lbs!
HONESTLY honda should bring back the little CBR400 :( Leave the awesome fairings too... they are so sexy.

8-10k isn't bad. you can pick up a pretty decent NEW bike for that, but if you're like me, and in it for the uniqueness, its defo worth it.
Only problem is 10k for a over ten year old bike that will need to be rebuilt every year or so. It will add up fast with cost of parts. The Ronax has a tag of 140000 lol
