Title: GS500 no spark all of a sudden?
Post by: nicktrotin on February 18, 2015, 05:17:18 PM
Hey guys, so my 2008 gs500 was running beautifully never had an issue ever until yesterday. I took her to the welders to have a custom seat pan made (to replace the crappy one I rigged up) and on the way over in the truck the bike very gently eased itself over with the ropes I had tied it down with being stretched. Then left it with the welders for the morning and when I came back, put it in the truck and unloaded it again, the bike wouldn't start! Rolled it to the dealership down the street and they verified that there is no spark from either plug. Apparently they checked the CDI and it's fine. Any ideas what it might be so I don't have to waste money on them trying to figure it out??

Spark is easy to check holding the plugs against earth while you crank.
Do that and make sure.
My gut feeling is that the welder did some tacking with the pan on the bike- that can cause all kinds of damage. Hope not though! How much did the new pan set you back?

I would get a 2nd opinion on the ignition module, and the reg/rect.

Welding currents and electronics don't mix.
