Title: 1995 no spark
Post by: cmat1120 on March 01, 2015, 12:50:10 PM
I have a 95 gs500 that I currently have  no spark on. I'm jumping the starter motor cause the relay is out and the ignition is on. The motor turns over but there's no spark. Also the plugs are new. What should I check? Fuse is good also

I just saw this: (http://i.imgur.com/jgHbchF.png)

I highlighted the section that seems relevant. Is a starter relay necessary in order for the ICU to function properly?

So I replaced the starter relay and the bike worked at first, but it had the same issue again both times I've ridden it since then. Each time the bike dies once, I'm able to start it again within a couple minutes, and then the next time it dies it takes awhile longer to start. It seems like just waiting is all that cures it. Looking at the electrical diagram one thing I noticed is that a faulty kill switch(one that doesn't close properly) would make sense as an issue. The only thing im not sure about is why it would happen randomly and how likely it is for that switch to go out. I know I could test just jumping it, but it would be hard to know for sure if its working since it happens so randomly. I'm really just looking for any opinions on if this is a likely diagnosis or if there's anything else that might be the issue instead.Thanks.

EDIT: Solved... turns out it was simply a bad connection at the sidestand relay. Lesson learned: check simple stuff first.
