Reminds me somewhat of an experience I had with the bikek had before the GS. Went in because the fuel injection had failed, no idea why, brand new bike, 3 months later I was told it was my fault and that the Ecu had corroded from being "submerged" in water, and it wouldn't be covered under warranty. A further 2 month fight with the dealer, I ended up taking the bike elsewhere to have it looked at. Turns out that the first service (1000km) was never done, bolts had come loose, oil went to shaZam!, oil filter was ratshit, and the cover for the electronics was never installed. The place I bought the bike from also serviced Suzuki and Yamaha, as well as Hyosung, which is what I bought. The first dealer lied though their teeth that none of it was their fault, blaming me for the state of the bike. As if to say I should have known their mechanics were lazy dickheads, who didn't do the job they were paid to do.
Never been back since. I hope you get your GS sorted out John, I haven't looked back since I got mine, they are a versatile machine, just a shame you can't trust anyone these days with doing their jobs properly.

So im not far from Melb. Which Mechanic did you take it to? So i know not to use him. And what did ou pay for it if you dont mind me asking?
You've had a rough run mate. Shame you had to deal with an incompetent mechanic like that.
But TBH you bought the wrong bike didn't you? You got it "cheap", but you're "into this bike for over 4 grand" OUCH!!!
There are cheap GS500's around but you really do need TIME to search and find the right one. You need to find the the seller who's 'had it up to here' :mad: with his bike and just wants to unload it SAP. And you need to know you can solve his bike's problem easily and cheaply.
My first GS was $600 and came with a bent valve, buggered tensioner and obscene rattle-can paint job. I went into it eyes wide open, I fixed and restored it and it goes beautifully. Super little bike, now dead reliable, sweet looking, and on the road for about $1300.
A couple of weeks ago I luckily picked up a '97 for $500 which just needed an ignition wire repairing, the instruments panel and cowling repairing, a mirror, and indicator lens and headlamp rim. (I had most of this 'in stock' - though if anyone has a headlamp rim they can live without please let me know!) The owner just wanted shot of it, it wouldn't start, and it'd had a light drop, my guess his mechanic had told him he'd be up for at least $1500 to fix it, so he wanted OUT! (Lucky for me).
Thing is, I looked for one like this for over a year. Moral of the story is that the bargains only come up rarely, so you have to be prepared to wait. If you need a bike more quickly, paying more will usually get you a trouble-free bike.
(The last thing I want to do is come across as a wise-guy, just passing on some experience. And don't worry I've made PLENTY of bad decisions in the past) :cheers:

Hi John, welcome to the forum! I read your whole story and I am sad to hear about all that crummy luck... it kinda sounds like he is working on your bike when he gets a spare second in between other jobs and can't give it his full attention maybe. Regardless, it sucks to just want to ride and be held back by all these problems. I hope you get it sorted out! Or (along the lines of what Jools said) try to look for another GS in better shape/smaller issues and keep this one for parts or part it out here maybe!

I got the bike back after 13 weeks. Everything seems ok so far. I have only put 700k's on it. And about my grammar, i couldn't start a paragraph or put a comer in the correct place when i was in school so it's just pointless to even try 30 years after I quit school.
Goodonya John, lets hope your troubles with it are over and that you get a good run out of it.
