So this is my first topic on this forum, even though i registered almost a year ago.
My name is Jeff and i'm from Belgium, so don't mind the bad grammar.
I used to ride a CBR 250 R that i bought in the summer of 2011, a really good bike but somehow i always felt as if i was hurting it. And it wasn't really that comfortable for everyday commuting. I'm only five feet one inch tall.
So i bought my gs in january 2014 after realising that i needed a bike that was comfy, reliable and easy on my wallet.
I paid a bit too much for it, but it really was in mint condition at the time. Or so i thought...

The bike turned out to be totally neglected by the shop i bought it from, the brakes were way too squishy, the carbs weren't tuned as they should have been and all of a sudden the friendly salesman wasn't all that friendly anymore. The shop refused to look after it and literally told me "you bought a suzuki gs500 and not a GSXR". It's really sad because they're well known and they advertise in all the bike magazines...
Now, because the Belgian economy is falling apart i took it upon myself to quit my job at the volvo car plant and i went back to school.
Since i now had to go school everyday and i had no income i had to do a lot of budget cuts, the bike being one of them. I figured i'd invest in the bike as soon as graduation was in sight. That moment has finally come!!
So today i took the tarp off, unhooked the battery from its charger and tried to start the bike ...
Almost immediately there was this dense blue smoke coming out of the exhaust, and it got worse when i stopped the engine.
On the right side of the bike there are two hoses, one runs up to the carbs to prevent them from overflowing. And right next to it there is a second little hose which i think acts as a breather for the engine, there's all sorts of gunk coming out of there. It looks like oil but i think it has fuel in it aswell because the consistency is way off for a bike that has been standing still.
This suspicion was confirmed as soon as i noticed that the tank was empty...
I know that this is my own fault, no arguing there. I should have lifted the tank and close off the fuel switch.
I just want to know what i have to do in order to fix it.
I'll put some more pics in here tomorrow, it's too dark outside for the moment.

Probably leaked all your gas to places you don't want it to be, one example being your engine & oil.
Smell the dipstick, it would smell like gas if it leaked there. Level could be also high. The too 'light' oil&gas mix in your crankcase could cause the blue smoke on startup.
If that is the case, do NOT start the bike until you've changed oil&filter!
Also check tire pressure and the usual things before riding.
This a common problem with bikes that have been sitting. My bike had the same problem. An oil and filter change would likely get you back on the road, but you should take the time to go over the whole bike and give it a refresh to keep potential problems at bay.
Change oil & filter, clean carburetor float bowls (make sure floats move up and down freely). Inspect spark plugs, inspect and replace fuel lines, and take a look at the air filter - you may want to clean or replace it. Plenty of detailed threads, and tutorials on the forum in you don't have a service manual.
Total cost is $30-$60 and a Saturday afternoon. Well worth it to get it done right. Much more information from more experienced riders if you search the forum for it. Good luck

I was going to have the dealer change the fuel lines anyway, the shop i bought my gs from had everything replaced with the cheapest components. Same goes for the filters and the carbs, i'm not taking any risks this time.

While you have the tank off... spend a little time just looking over (and maybe a gentle poke here and there) the whole cables area, the wires and top of engine etc.... familiarise yourself with what's there! .. it's good to take time to notice stuff.. so if you have any later dramas you can maybe see what's different! :thumb:
