Been noticing this chattering sound coming from Ele in traffic. I traced it to the cylinder head area. I'm not really sure if this is a normal sound or not, but any insight would be really appreciated. She only has 6,500 miles on her, so I can't believe if it's the piston slapping... :technical:
This video was taken after a ride home from work. Probably 15-20miles.
It's hard to hear over the exhaust and such, Listen closely at
0:04-0:05,
0:09-0:11, and
0:14 seconds. I think it's the most noticeable then.
Tinny, quick chattering.
Thanks!
I just heard valvetrain, and it sounded loose the way I like it :dunno_black:
OK, I did hear a separate tinny/higher pitched tapping, when viewing again, still think it is just valevtrain....although tinny/higher pitched
Doesn't sound like anything to worry about.
But. . .
Have the valves ever been checked?
If not, it's past time. And misadjusted valves will cause more top end noise.
When came into possession of Ele at ~5000 miles from the PO I had her two exhaust valve shims changed from 260 to 250 because he said they were way too tight. I also replaced the cam chain tensioner assembly. As far as I know that was the end of it. She now has 6500 miles.
Sounds ok to me :thumb:
these are old engines and shouldn't be compared to the modern stuff. Even in good condition and set up correctly they can be noisy
Okay, I'll stop fretting over it. Appreciate y'alls help.
You get excited when you don't hear the clatter :thumb:
I heard what he's talking about, its a metallic clanking noise.. faint but its there.
its more of a dink, clink, then the normal noisy lawnmower engine noise.
Right J_Walker. I don't know what it is, that's all. If I knew for certain I would feel a lot more at ease over it.
