My dad is a stickler for using Interstate batteries in all of the vehicles we have.
I've identified this model of theirs as the right model for my 2006 GS500F-er:

Quick question: anyone experience any fitment issues with this battery on their bike?
Thanks in advance.
Not a big wet battery fan.
I had one of those in my bike, came from a battery shop near me.. fit was fine, not tight at all.
MY suggestion would to be to find a sealed battery for your GS. Maintenance free and they stay good longer. Stay useable for longer/years.
My dad's suggestion, when it comes to motorcycle batteries, is, "Go with Odyssey whenever you can. But if they don't make one for your bike, then turn your attention to Interstate". Odyssey doesn't (I checked); that's why I asked about Interstate.
Dry versus wet isn't an issue to him. Quality of workmanship and durability are. Both companies are worthy of my business, in his opinion. All the rest are rather mediocre in his eyes.
Agreed, check out scorpion agm batteries. Im happy with mine.
Nowadays the "brand" name is practically meaningless.......
One company can produce batteries under many, many brand names....

Look at all the Brands...which are all really "Johnson controls"
Wal Mart ..... Interstate...Advance Auto.....same maker..

BTW, and if and when I win the lottery, I will purchase 25 of these...
http://shoraipower.com/products?action=vehicle&type=175&make=223224&model=223263&year=223263 ...
and ask Buddha to distribute them to the top 25 members of this Forum with the most membership seniority here.
:)
And thank you, bmf, for the recommendation. After some follow-up research, we ended up purchasing the Scorpion AGM battery, at a decent price, from batterystuff.com.

Lol!! .. you tightarse! .. not even a free sticker?!
Do the gel batts last appreciably longer than the conventional batteries?
The sealed battery (gel is 1 type, Activated Glass Mat - AGM is the other type), they have a level of flexibility in mounting. Side ways is my favorite, but you can even fit those upside down. They also can charge and discharge more cycles. Other than that, I think they have a slightly lower CCA capability when new but easily better that past the first 1-2 months over the "wet" batteries.
I have however opened up a AGM battery after a few years of use when it was dead, and added acid to it and it started working fine again and actually used it a few years in fact. So make of that what you will.
I think they can lose acid or water or something and give up, and lots of em prematurely end up getting tossed. I think. So troll around your local bike shop's junk pile, and see if you can test a couple and snag the best looking testing/newest one and see if you can get it back alive with acid or distilled water etc.
Cool.

Owww sheesh, how come I didn't see this post yesterday. Thanks Devikah. But I am losing touch on this site (rather lost it, desperately trying to get it back) ... I still have GS'es and other assorted cool 2 wheeled hardware ... but for almost the last year I've nearly had nothing I did on them. They all need it, for sure, 1 skorp needs a custom made starter clutch like my other skorp, the other skorp needs the top end back together and test run and tuned and light mods (it was bored to 102 mm and 12.5 CR - and I didn't know it, and blew it up 2 1/2 yrs ago) and the last 1000 things I have bought or worked on or sold have been audio equipment. The whole idea of needing a whole day to work on a bike seems to never appear ... the 1/2 hr 1 hr I can grab - easier to get my hands on an amp or a speaker.
OK back to batteries - the AGM/Gel family especially when fit sideways limits the ability of the lead that has got into the acid from turning into a precipitate and thereby bridging the gap to the next plate. So gel/AGM sideways is the way to go (atleast in my twisted logic)
Cool.

Also I think I like the idea of making people cringe ... I go on some audio repair site and post what I do, and I instantly get people crying ... you did what to that poor 1250 ??? and it works now ???????
Sorta like back in 1999 when I would get the strangest looks when I walk in the motorcycle dealer parts/service bay and ask for a pilot jet for a GS ... non bleed - and they would go like ... huh what is that ????
Cool.

I jump started a bike using a car battery and really envied the immediacy with which the motor came to life. Pity car bats are huge. I'll look into that web site.
When your battery goes bad, just check the fluid levels (carefully, because it's acid, that is very irritating when getting in contact with the skin).
Top it off with distilled water, and you're good to go for a bit more.
Thanks, yes I've topped up a couple cells with ddH2O.
