Title: Charging system issue
Post by: junk301 on April 06, 2015, 11:53:42 AM
Well I've been having a charging issue lately.  I've searched through the forums and the consensus I've reached is that if the battery doesn't jump to 13.5-14.5 volts whilst revving the engine it means that the battery isn't receiving enough electricity from the alternator someway or another (problem with the stator or r/r issue)....

So my question is, is it possible at all that this could be due to the battery and that it is unable to reach 13.5 volts, possibly a failed cell? I let the acid/water level reach very low and I am worried that even after topping it off with distilled water that it's a goner.

I don't want to purchase a new battery for no reason and even if i did, would a faulty stator/rectifier end up wasting a new battery (was thinking motobatt as I'm sick of this acid batteries).

Thanks

Martin

Go and get the battery load tested by someone who knows what they are doing. If it passes look at the reg/rect. If it doesn't, get a new battery.
