Title: difference in checking valve from a 2000 model to 2001 model
Post by: i8ball on April 30, 2015, 12:14:16 AM
I have looked for a while on this subject and cant find the answer, so i have a gs500e 2001 and i happen to come across a service manual for the 89-2000 i just want to do a valve clearance check. Will i have to get the 2001-2001 service manual to do this or is it the same way to check them i was unaware of engine change in these bikes tell the F model so i assume that book i have will work fine for how to check the valve clearance. Please correct me if i am wrong.

I checked valves many times on my 97 and 02 GSs and found the procedures the same.  A member made videos of the different model year valve checks that might be of interest to you.  Found in tutorial section above.

1989-2000:  http://youtu.be/jIL0eMzRPF8

2001-2002:  http://youtu.be/GWrlaIafIAU

2004-Present:  http://youtu.be/5J19aNdXV08

I found that setting exhaust valve clearances a little looser on my 02 than the Suzuki spec gave much longer exhaust valve life requiring fewer shim changes than on my 97 which was set to the Suzuki spec.  My valve check log:
