1992 GS500E specifically I'm in South Elgin, Illinois 60177
Listing it makes me sad, but here it goes... I'm selling my 1992 Suzuki Gs500E. Currently it has 31,070 Miles. I'm selling the bike due to it sprouting a
leak between the cylinder head and cylinder body. By my guess, it's the known gasket failure of higher milage gs500's which can be replaced for $30 and knowledge
of top end engine repair. While I can dismantle a carb, I don't think I would trust myself to replace a head gasket. Now onto the rest of the bike...
As of last summer, the bike had just had the carbs cleaned and tuned by Fornarelli Racing in Elgin and was running superb. Over the winter, is when the leak set in and began to
effect the bike. Come summer, the bike was flat on acceleration and spitting smoke and so that is when i found the head gasket leak. It is leaking oil both out of the
front of the bike, and into the cylinder, causing the bike to smoke from the exhaust. I even have a video on my phone of the leak.
The Good: The rest of the bike consists of...
-Semi-New tires.. Barely used front and back tires
-14t front sprocket
-Brand new front/rear rotors
-upgraded front/rear brakes to ones from newer gs500's
-.85 sonic springs in the forks
-clubman handlebars with risers... For a sporty look with a bit more comfort, Although still not as comfortable as stock.
-Cobra exhaust, now this exhaust isn't pristine. It is scratched up, blew apart at the welds and is held together by jbweld. But it isn't going anywhere now. And it still
sounds damn good, in my opinion.
To be honest, I don't know if someone has the talent to get it running again, or if it will just turn into a parts bike... I'm just looking to get a fair price for myself,
and the right buyer. I'm hoping to get ~$1000 obo
If you have any questions feel free to ask. I know the bike pretty damn well, and will be 100% upfront about everything I know... I want to give GStwins a chance before i craigslist it, as this site has given me so much help over the past years.

Cor, this is almost identical to the '97 E that I just picked up for $1 per cc.
It'd had a low speed drop, and I think the PO thought it needed a $1k black-box to get it going.
As it turned out it was just a simple severed ignition wire, sliced by the steering lock-stop when he dropped it.
(Now it runs nice and quiet, no smoking).
Previously I had spent a day or so painstakingly tracing and testing all the circuits and swapping components trying to track the no-spark problem down, straining my sad elecron-challenged brain. Then my mate the 'QMCM' came by for a BBQ, and instantly said, "hey there it is!" (slick bugger!)
He had just pointed out a bunch of wires coming from the headlamp, running between the triple clamps. There was a really small scuffing of the outer sheathing, but sure enough, when I cut away the sheathing, the main ignition power wire was severed. Tweaked the wires up and it runs like a beauty. (Sometimes life is kind eh?)

Known gasket failure of higher mileage GS500 ???? Known to whom ??? Never heard of such a thing ... Heard of plenty of head gaskets popping ... usually traced back to a missed re torque after break in or some such. And usually at low mileage.
Cool.
Buddha.

Doing research on causes of the leak here to see if i could fix it, i found http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=66143.0 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=66143.0)... Maybe i misunderstood him and worded it badly... But im pretty sure that is what the problem is. I have a video on my phone of the leak... But its basically a steady drip from where the left header meets the cylinder.
The leak described in that thread to which you linked is not uncommon but it's also usually only annoying rather than catastrophic. In other words people let it be.
If you've lost compression then that is another story, and not common.
I'll buy the gauges off of you...
I'm local and actually was just at Forenelli looking at buying a Cleveland cycle werks Tha ACE.
why don't you just buy this guys motor? and do some swap time?
