Had a wonderful Sunday and wanted to post on here and see how everything has been. I haven't been online or on 2 wheels for a while now and wanted to post a ride report and a quick question.
Rode 75 miles yesterday, beautiful weather and the roads here in Pa are almost clear of all of the winter gravel we are blessed with. Tons of other bikes out, actually received a few compliments from Harley guys on the amount of noise my bike makes with the stubby Delkevic pipe. A great day and made some new friends to boot.
Also did a rejet over the course of the past week. First time digging into some carbs, all went well except for the first test start after the work....banging head off of wall for an hour or so til I remembered to turn the tank petcock back on :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: :flipoff: :cookoo: but after I remembered that it fired right up and runs nice.
The only issue I'm having is a complete loss of power at exactly 8k rpm when over 3/4 throttle. Pretty sure I went a size too big on the main main jet. I will post where I ended with adjustments and stuff and unless someone thinks it is not a jet that is a bit too fat, I will be ordering a few more tomorrow.

Starts so much better, I can keep it running when cold without using the choke...actually responds to throttle input rather than just dying...but yeah. A great Sunday and I'm ecstatic about how much better the thing runs. Gonna do a little more research and maybe order more jets tonight and get it perfect and hope to ride a bunch of miles this year.
Glad your back. What had you off the bike for so long?
It could be to large a main. At some point with carbs you just have to fiddle with them and try different jets. Just be sure to keep a VERY detailed notebook.

Oh just had an extreeeemely busy summer last year and the bike needed the carb work done, didn't have the time to get into it seriously so I decided not to start until I knew I could finish reasonably quick...winters are filled up with my snowmobile....but finally managed to delegate some responsibility at my machine shop to the employees and spend some time tinkering...I will order up a few more sizes of main jets and probably mess with em a bit more.
Actually that brings up an interesting question: I could not get the tank petcock to close all the way. No matter which way I turned the screw it was always leaking a small amount (well, okay, not exactly a "small" amount) of gasoline out of the valve. I was able to lean the tank against a wall while it was off the bike to preserve the gas that was in there, however is there a secret to shutting that valve off?
and SBW, I am from Saegertown. Little town of approx 1000 people just North of Meadville and about 40 miles south of Erie.
That is pretty cool about the Hockeyville thing. I've never been a huge Pens fan but I have season tickets to the Pirates this year.
