Title: Irregular Miss
Post by: Alan_nc on May 08, 2015, 12:30:51 PM
02 GSe, 20,000miles, V&H exhaust rest of bike stock.  Had for about 2 years.

It has developed an irregular miss.  Starts(every time) and at times runs perfect.  Then it will start missing....not every time a plug is supposed to fire but every 10 or 20 strokes.  If I sit with it in the drive it idles perfect.  If I take it up to 3,000 rpm it will usually start to miss....just every now and then.  Every time is misses there is a mechanical noise sort of like something is slipping.

After it started doing this I changed the plugs to see if I had a bad plug.  Did not make any difference.  Plugs I took out looked perfect (neither one covered in oil or anything).

Anyone have any thoughts on what may be happening?

Can you tell if it is coming from the left or right side? If I had to guess, I'd say it was either electrical (plugs / wires / coils) or carb related.

Any stumble of power when it happens? Valves in spec? Air filter clean? Etc, etc....

You loose quite a bit of power when it happens but if you grab a handful  of throttle it goes past it fine.

Ok - I'm leaning towards the carbs now. Did the bike sit for any amount of time?

Float level could have got high ... these things sorta drift. But 89-00 drifts a lot faster than the later ones.
Cool.
