Title: Turn signal Indicator intermittent and Hi Beam indicator not working?
Post by: happyshlappy on May 08, 2015, 02:29:01 PM
Like it says my gs500f turn signal indicator as well as Hi beam indicator don't work. I put new bulbs in and it didn't fix it. My turn signal light will only work sometimes but other times doesn't work at all.

Thanks for any replies

I would check two things:

1st) If the high beam itself doesn't come on either, take the left side handlebar switch off, look inside, any corrosion/excess dirt that might interfere with the turn signal switch and the high beam switch?

2nd) Turn signal issue could also be a 'sticky' relay or you have a short, the relay is under the seat if I recall correctly on the exhaust side. As they get older they sometimes work on and off before they completely fail (aka, no more flashing period)

Did this just randomly start or was it always like that?

Pinched wires near the steering stem

You now need a few items...

The Mk 1 eyeball!!

A multimeter and basic understanding of use

Wiring diagram/service manual

Patience and attention to detail

Something comfy and low to sit on beside the bike!

No drinking booze and testing!!

Then

Just check over things one at a time... Make sure you are testing both ends of the same wire! .. Loose connections , crud and build up on connections, really bendy/melted looking sections of wiring.

Oh and first up over everything... Check the bulbs themselves!
