Did a first oil change today, and it only took just under 2L before making it to the full on dipstick.
Did I not drain it fully somehow ?
Cheers!
Don't know?! .. what did you do with oil change? .. where/how did you measure with dipstick? .. is it correct length dipstick? .. more info required! :thumb:
Is the bike on any sort of slope. You want to check it on level ground on the center stand. Don't screw the dip stick in either.
Drained hot? Changed oil filter? If drained on side stand, did you bring it up to at least vertical position to aid draining all that's possible?
Did you take out and change the oil filter, and let that part drain?
Did you check level with bike level, (level left and right and front to back) on its own wheels....and with the dip stick just sitting on top of the threads..
If you screw in the dipstick, it's gonna read way high.........
You gotta figure this out....running with too little oil is bad...as is running way overfilled is bad..

Took the filter out, waited till the oil drains, put int the new filter, poured the oil in.
Dipstick is the one that came with a bike, looks same as what i've seen on youtube videos.
Motorcycle was on a center stand when I was changing oil and measuring.
I didn't screw dipstick in when measuring.
I'm sure less than 3L of oil drained too (my car has 4L, and what I got was maybe 1/2 of the amount of oil that comes out of the car).
p.s. Sorry for the delayed reply, I literally couldn't get through "prove you're human" filter lol. What does the fuel line and air box connect to?
To mods, if you're reading this - this is like the hardest filter I've seen ever. This is a bike forum, not a bank, come on! Do i really have to go to google to find out when GS was introduced to post a reply?
And if it takes me 5 tries to figure out whats on that captcha... Very annoying. Very!
Rant over.
After draining and refilling oil you have to run engine before checking the oil. Did you do that? If you just fill to mark and check as you go it might only take 2 liters before hitting the mark. :dunno_black:
Typically I put 3 quarts (US) of oil in when I change it whether I change the filter or not. The 3 quarts goes over the full mark w/o filter change and a little short of it with filter change. Has worked for me for 100k miles on my current 02 and 80k miles on my 97 before that.
After changing oil I start bike and let it run while I clean up drain pan, etc. and then shut it down and check the oil hot.
Eugene, once you post a couple more times and stick around a little more, that capcha will go away.
Now, good luck fixing your issue. :]

Yeah, I left it running for a minute or so.
I'll check it again, will see if the level falls.
... yes the security stuff is needed..... otherwise we get hordes of spam bots dropping their trash! Like many other forums I've seen.. its a small price to pay to avoid endless UK kitchen sales! Yes cheap kitchens! Get them while their kitcheny! .. threads/posts. ;)

Did you also take out the oil drain plug (on bottom of engine)?

Just like with a car, the filter won't fill until the engine has been run so the reading will be high until it's been started and idled for a few seconds.
