Title: Stomp Grip
Post by: Slack on May 13, 2015, 04:14:44 PM
Who has it? what cut did you get?
I've read sv650 cuts work well on the GS500.
Does anyone have any pictures?

I didn't order stomp grip but I recently ordered some TechSpec tank grips. They don't make any for the gs500 but they sent me 5 temates that I thought would look good. I have a 2005 with the stripes on the tank. The hayabusa one fits relatively well to the tank, but cuts off the stripes and looks kinda weird. The sv650 one was better, but still cut off the stripes. I tried a triumph one, can't remember what bike and that fit terribly. I ended up getting a 1998-2007 Honda VFR 800 tank grip from TechSpec. It fits the tank well, right where my knees are, and lines up perfectly parallel with the stripes. They are coming in on Monday and I'll take a picture and post it on here as soon as I can on Monday. I thinks it's going to look good! (I've already seen the template) unfortunately I don't have the templates anymore

asking for some templates is a good idea.

I don't have stripes on my tank anymore. But I still want to see the pictures. It will also put some content in this thread. This forum has almost no info on stompgrip right now. Something for future searchers would be good.

I really wish I still had the templates! I'll look out in the garage tomorrow to see if they are still out there.  I'm also not sure if TechSpec and stomp grip have the same shape. There is very little info on tank grips on here. I decided to order some because I was braking downhill before a turn and my knees slide on the tank.. And you guessed it... I might not be having kids any time soon. Haha I'll put pictures up if I find templates!

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday! I had to work and didn't have time to put them on. Here are some pictures. They look and feel awesome! I'm going to replace the tank protector for a TechSpec one soon

Ewww that sounds bad. Your stomp grips look great, but for future searchers I recommend full leathers in the mountain twisties. Firm grip on stock tank, now try that with mesh protective gear... The latter is great when it's HOT and you actually have to do some sh*t aside from riding, too. :thumb:

It might of been a slight exaggeration haha but it was still bad. And I do wear leathers when I go one long rides or canyon like roads. Leathers help! And the tank grips help more! Haha

I just super glued some zip ties to the tank. and smeared some black silicone gasket maker over top of the zipties for that squishy grip.  :bs:

I believe you can order like a sheet or something of this stuff and cut it yourself.. I mean a piece of cardboard and some scissors? can't be that hard?

I didn't want to get a universal sheet because I didn't want to mess it up. Also the ones cut by the factory have a nice little edge to them. I did talk to TechSpec and they said that if you send them a template, they will cut it out for you and cost was decided by how much material you use. You could try that too!

Getting the universal sheet is twice as expensive. You need 1 sheet for each side.

Thanks for posting the pics.

I ordered some stompgrip volcano in an '04 gsxr600 cut and a universal tank center. I'll post pics once I get them.

I wear leathers as well. But I have some torn muscles/ligaments in my knees and it is very painful to ride aggressively right now. I'm hoping this will help ease my pain.

I am much more confident in turns with the tank grips. I feel attached to the bike more and not like I'm going to slip off in the turns. I'm sure it will help will pain. My legs are less sore because I don't have to squeeze the tank as hard.

It made a Huge difference! I'm really happy. I can stay locked on the tank with minimum pressure, even with a nylon suit on.
The GSXR cut was a bit too long. So I cut them (at the front edge) to better fit the tank. That left me with 2 little triangles. So I put them right where my knees go on my KLR650.
