I was bring my bike home in a truck (since I hadn't learned to ride yet and needed to get tags updated etc). The rope broke and consequently so did the fairings on the right side next to the tank. I can't find any online. Do fairings have to be for the specific year or are there comparable fairings to the '06?
Make a post in the for sale section. Lost of people here buy a bike with fairings and take them off to turn it into a naked bike. Hence, there are a lot of fairing floating around here. What color is your bike, you might be able to find a matching set. If you want to paint them any year gs500f fairing would work.
If you buy them new, you have to buy the correct base color and then buy the correct fairings. Or you can look around on eBay or wait until the correct piece and color comes up for sale here. Or buy an entire set in a different color off someone going nekkid

Thanks :) I will. I'm so excited to start riding. I watched a video on how to take my fairings off. I was so sad to see the author had passed. He seemed like a wonderful guy.

Omg I was so excited to start riding too. I bought my GS in January of 2012... it was about 20 degrees out but the ground was dry and bare... I was out there in the parking lot of my dad's garage teaching myself how to ride. It was awesome :-D
I would suggest that you run without fairings for 1 season. Then paint and install them in the off season. Your almost guaranteed to have a slow driveway drop in the beginning. Anything from 04 up will work.

I've had more slow driveway drops than actual wrecks on the road lol welcome to the board! Keep the shiny side up.
Lol u cursed me. I dropped it in the driveway of a friend. I turned it off, got off and it tipped the opposite way of my kickstand. Leaked gas from the tank til I got it back up then gas was still dripping from that tube with a cap thing. The cap had a lil slit. I duct taped it to get her home. No clue what the cap is called.
That slit is supposed to be there. I can't remember exactly what it is, but it's something like your gas tank vent tube, or an overflow tube from the fill cap area. When the bike was on its side gas filled up that tube and it just had to drain after you righted her. Sorry to call it :icon_eek: Happens to us all.
That split cap hose is the airbox drain. Fuel coming from it comes from the airbox when fuel leaks into it from carb thru leaking float valve and the float valve leaks when the bike is over. Also an oily water collects there from the engine top vent tube. The split cap should hold the liquid in until you squeeze it to drain it which is rarely required if bike is in good order and not turned over. The other 2 uncapped hoses at that location are the gas cap drain and the battery vent hose.
Thank you so much for explaining that to me :) I'm learning so much about my bike from this forum! ! ! I'm a complete novice but this is something I've always wanted. I also want to learn to fix things myself.
