So.. I received a 2001 Gs500 from my friend at work. The bike was free so you prob know the condition. After new rings, pistons, honing out the cylinders, gaskets, and more, The bike is almost complete. I have the carbs in and the airbox in. Now I have all these fuel lines to run and I'm completely lost. Now before you say "why didnt you mark the lines when you took it apart", The bike came in boxes.. I have been taking my time to make sure its correct. There are 4 lines coming off the fuel selector. I know two of them go to the gas tank. and then I know there should be a hose going from the breather to the airbox. but then from there... Im lost. Please help me so I can get this bike up and running. I have two attachments on here. You can see the first picture has a hose on one nipple and no hose on the other. There is also a line coming from the bottom. The last one comes from the left of the selector. I could not get a picture of that one. I tried to look it up online but couldnt get a clear picture.
Why don't you just run them straight to your carbs? Thats what i've done. not only eliminating bottlenecks, but also making everything a whole lot easier when disconnecting the tank.
Anyway, if you wanna run the fuel lines via the frame petcock, here's a picture to help you.If this one isnt clear, just google for pictures: Gs500 fuel line

Does this one work? Don't mind the writings, it specific to another topic, on another forum.

From the pictures that i see, and the description you give, my last post should be correct.

All of the fuel petcock pictures on all year GSs are wrong in the parts fiches. On 89-00 and 01-02 the frame petcock is shown as seen from the bikes left side and the tank petcock is shown as seen from the right side. For 04-09 GSF models the tank petcock pictures were correctly turned around but the hoses were not although hose labels were correct. The long tube on the tank petcock is the reserve tube and is located towards the bikes front on all models. My diagrams shown in post above are all correct for all model years, hoses cross only on 01-02 models and do not cross on 04-09 GSF models as shown in parts fiches..
Personal recommendation is to not use the vacuum petcock at all. Less than reliable in my experience.
I found a handy way to keep reserve function as well as have an on/off using a T fitting and 2 ball valves. I can post up pictures in the next few days, it needs to come apart for some more hose clamps anyway (didn't have enough for every fitting and now it likes to leak gas).
Thank you

Here's how mine is run.
2 lines off the tank with an in-line ball valve on the reserve side. Remember, reserve is the forward most nipple on the tank.

Run to a T-fitting roughly in the same location as the factory fuel valve. The left is main in, the bottom is reserve in, the right is main out. You can see I have another on/off on the main out.

This is the other end of the out line towards the carbs. I ran it under the frame crossmember for an easier path to the carbs. I also installed a fuel filter.

I was too lazy to properly mount anything, so the T-fitting is zip-tied to the mounting plate for the factory valve and the reserve ball valve is just zipped to the frame in an easy to reach spot.

With the plastics on this is a straight shot at the T-fitting setup. It's mostly hidden. At standing height the valve is completely hidden from view and the fuel filter is plainly visible through that gap in the frame.

Oh, and don't forget to plug the vacuum port on the carbs.
It's a great setup. No issues so far, no pesky vacuum or diaphragms to deal with, and I get to keep a working reserve function.
thats smart. Where do I get those fittings though? That seems so much easier. Thanks for the pictures. Im sure I will be doing that this weekend. Once I find the parts..
The ball valves I got on eBay, nobody local had them. Just 1/4" on/off valves.
The T-fitting and fuel filter you can get at any auto parts store when you get your fuel line. And do get fuel line, don't be lazy like me and reuse old fuel line and wake up one morning with an entire tank of gas (minus the reserve) on the garage floor because the old line decided it didn't like its new bend and split wide open.
Took me about 2.5 feet of fuel line. Bought 3 and had a bit left over as spare.
The awesome spring hose clamps (best hose clamps, especially for expedient repairs on the roadside with just a multitool) I got at ACE hardware. The two standard clamps are there just because I bought ACE out of spring clamps and was still short...
