Title: oil leak help
Post by: kord_f on May 30, 2015, 09:48:41 AM
I just noticed I'm leaking a little bit of oil from one of the bolts right under the oil filter.  It's not much and only drips when i have the bike running.  I already made sure the bolts were tight, yet it still leaks.  Any ideas?  You can see the droplets on the left bolt and another forming on the right bolt.

It's actually coming from the filter cover.  I remember when I changed the filter the o-ring didn't want to stay in place.  Could that be what's causing it?

Precisely.
I'd buy a new filter, with which a new o-ring will be supplied.
Replace just the o-ring, and next time you replace the filter, just leave the o-ring in place.
Don't forget to top up the oil you'll lose when opening the oil filter area (~0,3l).

Clean the area to make certain where the leak is coming from....it probably is the filter seal.Do NOT overtighten.
Watch this video....particularly 7 mins in.

There's a good chance I did over tighten them a bit but probably not by much. What should I check to ensure everything's still good?

If you didn't break the bolts your good.
If your really worried you over stretched one then get some replacement bolts from the dealer or a hardware store.
