Title: winter project
Post by: 1034am on June 02, 2015, 02:35:30 PM
Hey all, I just wanted to say hello. I've been working on my first bike this past winter and it's been a hoot!
Previous owner took out the ignition so i'm planning on a remote on-off switch.  And I thought the tach/speedo sat too high so I hardwired a gps in it's place. Time will tell if I can actually see it!  LOL!
The bike is mostly mocked up.  I still have to finish wiring the lights and seat re-upholstery. (and the gas tank wrap leaves a little to be desired...)

Neat. You can just run the ignition through the cut off switch, to keep from having to add another switch.

Do you have enough clearance between the back tire and the rear light? It sure does look tight to me, like the wheel will definitely hit the light on full compression.

Didn't think of the tire clearance.  The light bracket hasn't been welded yet, so I have a chance to move it. (it's just the gs light upside down.  I thought the size would visually balance the tank.)

how much clearance do i need? I'm about 220lbs and will likely be running a 150 series tire. thx.

Do a Google search for the GS's rear suspension travel, then measure from the tire straight up to the light (while on the center stand). If it isn't close, you're golden. If that doesn't work for whatever reason, you can compress the rear suspension with a ratchet strap around the swingarm & frame.
