Title: Fuel hose sizes?
Post by: scotty110788 on June 19, 2015, 12:34:38 AM
So was fiddling about with my 92 model when I noticed fuel everywhere, took tank off and spotted a tear in the line, easily fixed it but I noticed a lot of the hoses wernt matching or fitting on properly because of the sizes, bad job from whoever had done them in the first place. So what sizes are they and what kind of hose do I need? There's the 2 from the tank to the petrol valve that need sorted.

The stock fuel lines are 7mm but they're a bit difficult to find or expensive. So most people tend to go with 5/16 fuel line.

I use 1/4" tygon yellow fuel line. It isn't that expensive. On the tank petcock, it slides on nicely. On the frame petcock it is a bit of a stretch. I used a hair drier to heat up the fuel line and get it on. Then I realized that since I take my tank off so often, and it was a pain to put the fuel line on again, I got fuel quick disconnects and love them. I recommend taking that option if you take your tank off a lot. Or if you don't take it off ever, the tygon fuel line is a great option!

Do you have a link to the type of quick disconnects you used, and how long have you had them on?

^ Ditto, would love a photo. I never heard of quick disconnects for fuel lines and it's always a pain to yank the fuel lines off the tank. Do you have them placed in a location that you can disconnect through the side of the bike or you still have to unbolt the tank first?

I have them placed where I u clip them from the side of the bike and you will see that in the picture. I put white paint on one connection on each end so that I don't mix up the fuel lines. In order to use these, you will need the tygon fuel lines I mentioned before. I will leave a link for that as well. MAKE SURE YOUR HOSE CLAMPS ARE SECURE!!!! Since I don't need to turn the tank petcock to off, fuel will run free if a disconnect comes loose. Trust me, I figured that out the hard way.

These are the quick disconnects. They shut off fuel flow when they are not pieced together. They just click together and then there is a button to pull them apart. I still use a rag underneath when I pull them apart because they drip a bit of fuel that is in between the two connections. You are going to need to order two of them. One for both lines.

Motion pro also makes one so if you want to spend a little bit more money, then go for these but mine have worked just fine. You need the one with the shutoff to stop fuel flow.

Here is the fuel line just in case you are looking.

AND FINALLY.....
the pictures
I have been having issues with some pictures being sideways. Not sure why... So bear with me if they are bad.

Didn't realize it until I saw the pictures here but those fuel lines and connection could use a cleaning!
