Title: Cell phone holder?????
Post by: Knuttzz on June 22, 2015, 07:17:00 PM
Does anybody have one they'd reccomend? I live in NC and frequently ride the bike up to WV multiple times during the warmer months. I've always rigged up a charger and some way to hold my phone while riding. The GS being my first bike with actual handle bars I've been looking for a holder that will clamp on the bar. Anybody using one that they would recommend ?

I use a ram mount. Haven't had problems yet!

Here is a picture of the ram mount. Sorry I don't have a picture with my phone in it... That might be a bit complicated

+1. I have the X mount like posted above with the lower mount coming from the handle bar risers. When Ifirst got the X mount iI had issues with the phone bouncing out but figured I had to bend the arms upwards a little to get a decent grip on my phone.

Buy an Otterbox Defender case for your phone. Use the holster and a hose clamp to attach to your handlebars. It's incredibly strong and your phone will NOT fall out. I was always worried about "what if" scenarios so I drilled a hole into the holster itself and ran a piece of safety wire through it. Just in case the holster's beltclip ever decided to break.

I used this method for years and it worked flawlessly; never once had an issue. The only time the phone ever came out of the holster was when I flipped the bike over backwards (a KLR650). Even still, the case protected the phone and survived without a scratch. Plus, the Otterbox provides some weather protection. Basically, if it starts to rain, you'll have enough time to pull over and put the phone in your pack.

If you're worried about the hose clamp scratching your bars, wrap the section to be clamped with electrical tape first.

I bought this bad boy off eBay. I figured for $6 shipped is was worth a shot and 750 miles later is has not let me down.

I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R6RSCV4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00

The webbing adds extra security. I've used just the grips on the side and it held pretty well. The webbing around the outside makes it so it doesn't move at all. I've hit the twisties hard, been pretty close to 100mph, and not so much as a shake out of that holder. I also use a GPS speedo app on my phone for more accuracy so having a stable mount was important to me. I also rigged a charger and routed the cable up to it and have never had it fall out while riding.

I just picked up this one.

They are a bit pricey but if you have an iPhone it should fit perfectly. My older HTC ONE fits as long as I remove the impact resistant case. You can access all touchscreen functions while it's still in the case. Also water proof. I'll post pictures after I mount it.
