I'll try to make this quick. Owned this 92 500e for two weeks. Been making it right since then like brakes, oil change, valve adj and carbs......
Bike has drop in k&n, full Jardine exhaust with a chopped muffler and DJ kit.
PO stated it always bogged from idle up till 4000rpm. Read up on that so I changed the pilot to #40.
After cleaning, changing the pilot, replacing all gaskets or orings and setting the float level to 14.6 it still bogs from no throttle up to 4000rpm. Running rich as heck just going up he driveway. I think the cause of the rich condition is the fuel level. I've adjusted the floats from 14.6, 15 and 16. Checked with a clear tube and what ever mm I set it to the fuel ALWAYS is 2-3mm above the gasket surface. Where's the fuel entering??? I've jetted my Roadstar and xs650 no problems but man this one is driving me nuts.. Please help lol
Is the float sticking on anything? Not too likely on GS carbs, but still possible.... are the floats taking on fuel (so they sink)?
Oh yeah - is the level high on both carbs or just one?
The floats move free. Both sides are above the bowl. My next step was to throw the floats in water. I'll do that in a few.
Forgot to add that there was a significant idle change when I rolled down my angled driveway and when I placed it on the kick stand. That's where I started thinking it may be a bowl issue.
Submerged each float for a minute. No bubbles and they float. Shinned my led light at the floats to see if any water got in. Negative.... Leaking through the choke circuit maybe? I mean there's no orings there just a brass plunger.. I should run it without the cable attached
Ideally fuel @ the top of the bowl. 2/3 mm is huge. I'd in fact try to get it an mm or 1/2 under the gasket level.
Cool.
Buddha.
After some late night work I was able to get the fuel level down below the gasket surface. Measured out at 18mm but the point is it's below. So..... Fired her up this afternoon and now bogs at 2k-4k. Plugs fouled like crazy. It has the dj118 main with the DJ needle all the way down. For grins I ordered smaller Jett's. Mikuni 107.5 equivalent to DJ112... I figure if the problem still persist then I don't know.... A crack in the carb? Who knows at this point.
I dunno Tia. ... I would reset the carb jetting to stock and see where that takes you. What is the stock main jet? 120? I'd be very hesitant to drop down to a 107.5...
That's dynojet needle and main sizes. I only for the 107 mikuni since that brand is easily accesible for me. But like I said it's for grins. I am 100% with you on going back to stock once I get this out of the way. I'm working with some one else's jetting n trying to piece it together. Only thing I need to get for it to be stock is the needle. I'll keep posting once I get the parts
I'm surprised that after Buddha posted that he didn't say scrap the DJ's and get a set from him?... usually does... and from all reports they work!... maybe waiting for the head scratching/desperation to build up? ;)

I've ran into a few of his replies when I was hitting the search button but nothing on what you just mentioned. I'm not really in desperation mode yet but since you brought it up fill me in lol
Buddha is the go to man here for those that want to rejet! ... you provide info on your setup and some funds and he supplies the goods! :thumb:
That's cool man! I'll stop buying stuff n send him a PM
