Title: 07 GS500f Blinker problems
Post by: lj42avs on July 13, 2015, 05:39:57 PM
the bike has been sitting for many years, just got a new battery and cleaned the carbs to get it running. For some reason the blinkers will not work, or will blink one time and then not again. also one time after the bike was turned off the rear break light stayed on until key was turned on and off again. Any ideas as to what it may be??

Any rodents make a nest in the wiring? It's happened before....

If you look at the ignition cylinder, from right to left it is : On, Off----Lock, Park. That "park" position locks the steering but also leaves your taillight on. Great way to kill a battery by accident.

Can't help with the turn signals though. Maybe a bad relay, or a bad connection at the relay?

Bad flasher can

+1 to check this - my 2k7 flasher can popped a while back - started blinking slower and slower - $10 will get you an aftermarket one that works with the stock lamps.

You can even get one at an auto parts store and it will make that clicky clicky noise that cars make. I just buy used GS500 flashers off ebay for a few bucks when mine go bad.

Just pull the plug off the relay and short the wires together, blue and orange (I think).

If the lights on each side come on when you hit the switch the relay is faulty, and hit the brake light switches with a shot of WD40, it sounds like one of them is sticking.
