Title: Engine strip, rebuild and paint
Post by: scotty110788 on August 04, 2015, 11:54:49 PM
So doing to many things atm and got parts all over at different places getting looked at so thought I'd start on the engine, I'm gonna fully rebuild it, replace all gaskets etc.. Just wondering how I would go about painting it? Or powder coating it, what parts can I touch and what parts I can

powder coat is good but can make it hard ti fit bolts etc.  i would guess your first step is to get stuff blasted then primed.  Each product should be heat proof.

Powder coating an engine is kind of a process.... the bottom end needs to be completely torn apart and cleaned up. And not just wiped off with some degreaser - the aluminum needs to be boiled in water and then baked in an oven. Aluminum soaks oil and other chemicals into the metal, which come out and ruin the finish of the powder.

Unless you REALLY want to become intimate with your engine by powder coating it, stick to paint. Well.... except maybe the smaller / easier parts to powder. Oil filter cover, clutch cover, head cover, etc, etc.
