Title: Odd noise
Post by: bombsquad83 on August 15, 2015, 01:20:50 PM
I've heard it about 3 times in the last 500 miles or so.  It's a very high pitch metal "ting" type noise, and it only occurs when I'm in a moderate speed (50 mph+) left hand sweeper leaned in at a good angle.   It only occurs once or twice during the curve about 2 seconds between noises, and it has seemingly no effect on performance or RPMs.  I've never heard it under any other scenario.  After my last ride when I heard it yesterday, I adjusted my chain, which was just slightly looser than spec at about 35 mm of free play. If the noise wasn't my chain, what else could it be?

Loose side stand or centre stand sagging down and ping the road surface? .. any fresh shiny metal surface on them?....

Or centre stand rubber cushion thingy missing and bouncing against exhaust? ...

Or loose muffler bolt on mount and the can is flopping around a little? ... I've had that bolt go missing mid ride once cos I never checked the tightness!

Stands look tight and pad is intact.  No fresh shiny metal on the stands either.

Bomb, do you have a GoPro or anything? I can't imagine what the noise could possibly be (except maybe something getting kicked up from the road surface....) but having a camera aimed around the noisy area might help.

Sorry man, wish Icould help.  :dunno_black:

Only other thing I could think of is the chain having too much slack and impacting the clutch push rod.  Not sure why that would occur on leaned in to the left though.  We will see soon enough if the noise presents itself again with the chain recently tightened and lubed.
