Title: 99 gs 500 project build... need opinions
Post by: hancey2015 on August 15, 2015, 06:50:17 PM
Ok so I've been riding my gs 500 for a coup years now and to. Be honest I'm getting kinda bored of it... done as much as I can to it without major motor work. So im now in the insurance range that will allow me to get a gsxr 750 without paying crazy prices. So what I would like to do over the winter is find a sv650 or bigger motor to put in the gs. Didn't know if I'm thinking wrong or??? With the 750 gsxr i can go fast enough but I would like a project over the winter so I figured id ask you guys if anyone has tryed a motor swap...
By the way even if it was possible to cram a 1000cc motor in the gs I would still pay insurance on a 500cc bike. Just want to know if a motor swap can be done or not. Thank you in advance!

well you could put w/e engine in it you want. Just how much money do you have?

i was actually thinking of doing a Kawi 650 engine.... or a turbo on my gs500.

Would very much like a bit more power. Riding with a bunch 600s, 750s, and 1000's.... really makes me miss my GT650R.

Whatever engine you choose, double check with your insurance company. They might charge the same, but if they are my aware of a modification like that and you get in an accident, they might try to drop you without paying.

I haven't seen too many successful engine swaps in the GS500. But there was EdE's RD swap (2 stroke goodness) or an engine from a GR650 which Buddha did. The GR engine would probably be the easiest.
