Title: Stator Help Please

Hi all,

Been awhile since my last post but i wanted to ask peoples opinions on the Electrix Stator replacement for a GS 500 F 2004 (FK4), one thing in particular is that the width of the replacement stator is 19mm as opposed to the existing 27mm, does this have any bearing on the output? will it need suspending from the engine case to ensure the correct magnetic field interference? also is the 27mm the correct one for the bike or has someone fitted an older style one in the past? Any help answering these questions would be greatly appreciated :)

19 mm vs 27 mm is huge. You sure you got the right item ???

Thanks Paragon but i'm looking to replace the parts with new ones really, the stator i have puts out a max of 65V which is 10V below standards so i think a new one is likely to be the only way to get those 10V's back :/ appreciate the offer though :)

@ Francis123 - you do know the bike uses 12v and DC right ? And to convert 65 or 75 V AC to 12v properly without loss you need a transformer right.
You also know, there aint no transformer in the bike right.

That's right, you're dumping all that as heat into the rectifier/regulator which does a 1/2 assed job of full wave rectification which will give you a near 110v spikes (imagine the McDonald's m placed continuously with 110v or so peak) and the regulator will cut off the voltage past 15 or so V and give you semi steady voltage.

That 120v peak full wave rectified to 14-15v dc works just as well with a 110 v peak or a 100v etc etc.

It will usually fail when 1 phase of it drops off well below the 12v mark. So if you have 65v X 3 in the 3 phases - you should be fine. When one of those drops below 15 - then you'd likely be not charging.

They make a schottky diode regulator which is far better I hear. If you're getting issues charging, and your alternator is making 65v in each phase, try replacing the regulator. Likely to have that dead then the stator.

You may also have magnets getting weaker too. But 65v isn't bad.
