Title: Anybody live in the North Carolina mountains or western NC????
Post by: Knuttzz on September 04, 2015, 05:42:10 PM
Like the title says , anybody on here from the area??

I've found myself with nothing to do this weekend since my kids are with their mother and actually don't have to work which is very rare and I've been searching the net trying to find a good place to ride to.

Don't wanna do Deals Gap, too crowded .
I've been all over the Blue Ridge Parkway so that's out.
I've explored about every nook and cranny I can think of in the western North Carolina mountains and parts of Tennessee except Shady Valley Tn. It looks like it might be worth the 3 or so hour ride.

So........ Anybody on here familiar with that area , more specifically US 421 which is called "the snake"?
Is it worth the ride there ?

It's one of the best roads in the country. Hands down.
If you have time swing up into VA and hit the back of the dragon too!

The "Snake" is well worth the ride.  We always go up in May and then again in Oct.   It's 33 miles of some of he best "kiss your ass" curves you will find anywhere.  There should be quite a crowd at the store at the bottom.

There are no driveways or crossroads until about the last mile so it's fairly safe.   The GS is a good bike for it.  Do a google search for all the details.

Holy he@$...... That road was definitely worth the ride. Wasn't too crowded and the Harley's that get in the way waved me by for the most part.

Now to get used to te GS and what gear to be in when exiting the corner.  My leg is cramped from dancing thru the gear box on this 40 hp monster hahaha....

I just grabbed a candy bar at the gas station..... I'm not big on going in somewhere and sitting down when I'm by myself .

Yep, I had a blast. Been a busy summer between my children and all their activities and work so this was pretty much my only trip. It was well worth it though .

That is one fantastic road. I live about an hr south of there , but I was looking for something new and at least an all day ride. That's why I headed up to 421.

conincidence maybe but any  road ive seen with either devil or devils in its name ( or using these names by association) always makes for a fun ride. devils triangle for example is hwy 116 in lake city tn. i REFUSE  to call it by its new name rocky top. lol. despise that song. anyhoo 116 goes back into the hills towards briceville tn. follow the turnoffs, eventually youd finish ride  near brushy montain penitentiary. ( james earl ray anybody? lol) in a community called petros. near wartburg/oliver springs
