Title: Oil filter hatch studs stripped
Post by: The Buddha on September 14, 2015, 06:52:44 AM
I've seen posts about the threads on the studs getting chewed up. But I cant find them.
Has anyone pulled them and replaced them ?
The studs are in with Loctite, I want to see if heat is the best option or does someone have a better option they have tried.
Thanks.
Buddha.

I would try a little heat regardless, either the locktite will soften or the aluminum will expand faster than the steel stud, either way you win  :thumb:

Heat the studs, not the alloy.
They will fall out  :thumb:

Oooo - OK that's a good idea.
I plan to lock 2 nuts on it, and heat it so I can get it out with a 10mm socket wrench ?

Cool.

i second the 2 nuts idea. if you can get 2 on there. those things break easily. IIRC spec is in inch lbs

Locktite is designed to release when heated so that is your best bet. Could also braise/weld a nut on the end.
