Title: Very low oil usage?
Post by: roedvigmads on September 26, 2015, 04:32:12 AM
Hey everybody

My first motorcycle season is soon coming to an end.
I have changed oilfilter and oil, then I have driven a couple of thousand kilometers, but everytime I check my oil level, the dipstick shows that the oil level is as high as it can be.  :icon_confused:
Should I be worried or do I have a fantastic engine that have a very low oil usage?  ;)

I tried synthetic oil for the first time this year (as someone gave me a few gallons),  have done about 6000 km and had to add no oil. With dine it used about 500 ml between oil changes.  I've got 50 000 km on mine.
If you do much highway work then oil usage tends to creep up, but if your bike is relatively new there is no reason that it should use oil.
BUT DON'T FORGET TO CHECK IT AT LEAST WEEKLY, OR MORE OF DOING HIGH MILEAGE. ;-)

Hmmm yep, mine doesn't use much oil just cruising about, but a few hard rides and it needs a bit of a top up.

If you have good results with your oil use/km's then keep using that oil! ... just still change it when it's due! :thumb:

I don't think my bike burns much oil. It drips most of it out... :)  I'd just keep happily riding it, but do keep an eye on it.

Least you can see why the oil level goes down Ed!  ... no hidden losses!

That is good news. I don't think mine really burned much oil for the first 20,000 miles then it increases steadily.

Just make sure you are checking the oil correctly; if you have the bike leaned at all it can look like you have more oil than you really do.
