Title: Possible carb issue?
Post by: aaronwhitten94 on October 09, 2015, 01:06:55 AM
Hey all, got a 92' GS500E was running spot on when i parked up one night, next day found the fuel tap hanging off and the carbs so loose that the engine backfired and threw them off (i suspect someone tampered) since then the bike has run like absolute crap

things ive tried are stripping every piece of the carbs and fuel lines/tap down and cleaning them with carb cleaning and blowing air down each fuel line

the results are one extreme to another, either on the motorway at speeds of around 80mph it will stutter and cut out and won't restart for around 2 minutes, or it has trouble idling and pulling off is almost no existent

the bike has been main jet rejetted to 150's, k&n fuel filter lunchbox type, full stainless steel motad exhaust, needle clips dropped one position, 2.5 turns out on the mixture screw, also checked with carb cleaning for leaks in the carb boots, there arent any

Thanks for any help!

Why some people mess with a strangers bike is beyond me.....

Are you certain that all the fuel & vacuum lines are connected in the correct spot, and no loose connections? It would take a helluva backfire out of the carbs to dislodge them from the engine, so look at the intake boots as well. Any rips / tears / cracks?

I suspect the girlfriends neighbours who didn't approve of my parking

Ive checked all connections and looked at the intake boots, all connected properly and the carbs are now solid on with the same problem, it feels like fuel starvation im just a little stuck as to how since iv'e cleaned it more times now than i can count!  :icon_lol:

I am having the same issue and am currently in the process of diagnosing. Here's my thread if you wanna keep up with what I'm doing:
