I noticed some movement in my side stand over the weekend. when its in the down or up position it seems to have a lot of left to right play, is this right or am I perhaps missing a rubber etc?
Also....
I removed the fuel cap because the little flap that covers the key hole was not staying in the down position. I actually found that the little ball on the flap had worn two extra groves either side of the one it was meant to be seated in so the flap needed replacing. While getting to the little ball to attempt and grease it (as per the sticky) I found the locking part with the pins had a huge crack through it and upon gently lifting it up it sprung into many many small pieces.
I've bought an emergency fuel cap (push in kind) and I used a hacksaw to cut the flap from the retaining ring. Have reinstalled the ring with the allen bolts and will now just use it like that for a few days until I can get a replacement cap.
DAMMIT.
My side stand has had a lot of side play since bike was new...I haven't liked this since the first time I put the stand down.
I tried to get the play out...but I think it is just designed to be "loose"
I think those springs are there to sort of hold it together.

Same here with my side stand. I remember I tried tightening it down, adding a washer or something somewhere, but it just got too tough to use, so undid the change and let it be.
I cut & shaped some some galvanised steel fence,to be used as a washer.Works perfect with no lateral movement at all.
If it ever starts to get movement there's plenty of fence around. :)

Here's my tank bodge. Do I need to drill a vent hole in it?

Ride until there's a problem. You might get lucky. Besides just drilling a vent may let in rain and debris.
"Do I need to drill a vent hole in it?"...............I would......it only needs to be very small & drill it with cap removed from tank.
What's the stem on that bodge cap formed like?... or look like? ... doubt an emergency cap is gonna go airtight!
