Hi everybody. I have a problem and hope the GS gurus can help with this. My 2005 is a Buddha Loves You to ride until fully warmed, and even then it occasionnaly dies on me when arriving at a stop. Is there a carb rejet I can do aside from cleaning the damn thing? I hear guys raising the needles...any help would be greatly appreciated. :thumb:
Or....is it possible that all this hard operation is caused by a valve ajustment?
Yea we rejet all these stupid things. But that may not be your primary issue.
However if a valve is tight it will act up till its fully warmed up. Dying after fully hot - yea ocassionally it can do that, but if it does, you need to adjust it back into spec ASAP, the longer you run it, the more you'd burn the valve.
A valve that is set near 0 clearance will do this In my experience. - It will start up fine with choke, but in 5 seconds will want to die in that cyl unless you rev it. If you keep it revved till you get it fully hot, it will then run great till you shut it down and it cools down. If its set negative - AKA the valve is hanging open during your combustion cycle, it could still run @ higher revs, but die @ idle - Your symptom, except, it should do it all the time, not just occasionally. This will burn the valve. So check/adjust it.
You may also have an intake vacuum leak, and exhaust leak, a clogged fuel passage, a clogged air filter or crappy fuel tank or crappy fuel in decreasing order of probability.
Once you check all that - rejet it. I'd check the intake and exhaust leaks, valves and get the rejet kit. Cleaning of some tiny passage deep in the carb means you're doing 200 % more than the work needed to rejet, might as well correct that too.
Cool.

Thanks Buddah. The plugs are sand colored, so I suspect the bike is running too lean on the choke(Pilot). So do you think that it's a good idea to up the pilot jet, and what number is the stock jet, and...(I'm almost finish...lol) what jet number should I use to replace the stock one, and where to buy?
Thanksssssssss.
If your bike is bone stock you can bump the pilot up from 17.5 to a 20 and the mains from 130 up to 132.5. This is what I did with mine, I didn't shim the needles because I was pretty happy with the results of going up one jet size.
Great info, I absolutely have to get rid of that leaness, where do you recommend I buy this from?
Buddha can prolly hook you up, I bought mine from here... http://jetsrus.com/a_jet_kit_street/suzuki_500_GS500F.htm (http://jetsrus.com/a_jet_kit_street/suzuki_500_GS500F.htm)
Try local, but yea stevo is right, $25 in US, $33 outside US.
Cool.
