Gday all,
My name is Paul & I've been sober now for nearly two years. Oops, wrong group. :embarassed:
Ive recently returned to the saddle of a GS500. I had a 2001 model about 10yrs back. Awesome bike. I moved on to a new sv1000n 2006. It was a beautiful bike & Id still have it now if it wasnt for loosing most of my belongings in a divorce. Oh well, such is life.
Anyhow I recently picked up a 2003 gs. Good strong motor & gearbox feels strong. Thank god cause when I got it home I started noticing more & more little problems I didnt notice when I went for the test ride. A good warning againt test riding at night. I was told it was ready for a RWC, little did I know.....
First thing I spotted was a oil leak from magneto cover. No big deal I just bought a gasket & all the goodies I needed for a minor service, plugs, filters, oil, etc.
Then I spot leaking fork seals.hmmm. then after deciding to go over the bike a bit more thoroughly I spot tell tale signs of it having lived near the ocean at some stage & a lot of superficial rust spots on the frame. So what was meant to be a minor service, forkseal & gasket replacement have ended up inlcuding a almost full repaint, as well as a lot of tlc.
Anyway, enough complaining. I'll put some pics up soon as Im pretty happy with how shes turning out.
Well stay upright all & I look forward to exploring the site more.
Paul
Welcome Paul, enjoy the GS, - once you get it fully 'sorted' she should be good.
Your 'superficial rust spots' are pretty normal, one of the weak points of this model is a pretty 'ordinary' standard of finish.
Hopefully you used genuine Suzi fork seals, -I've found the Pyramid Parts ones are substandard.
Look forward to pics,
Jools
Hi Paul , I cannot drink because I have to respond to business alarms , driving down to where the business alarm goes off , me my Glock 10 mm and gs500f in the downtown los angeles area .
Thanks for the welcome. Ive bought genuine suzi fork seals. However I made up the special tool as I saw on vids & posts but there doesnt seem to be any type of grab. So now Im wondering if the forks have been replaced with 2004+ as the video mentioned Id need a different special tool.
Ive just got to realign with my new girl. Ive done a few ride days at phillip island circuit on my old gs & sv1000. I love both bikes but the gs was in my available price range. Dont get me wrong, im not complaining.
I dont drink at all anymore gamma, ive loved her but she wasnt so keen on me. I dont think me drunk, with a handgun out in public would be good either.

A sober bike-a-holic? You've been away from bikes for nearly two years? That's what you meant, right?
