I've rerouted cables from behind the guages through the side of the frame. I originally had the clip on bars with 100mm risers and am using the same cables on my scorpion touring bars.

I put GenMar risers on both my GSs for 1" up and 1 3/8" back without rerouting cables and that was about as far as the brake hose would stretch, had to relocate hose in midway bracket a bit.  Had to later reroute choke cable to behind left fork tube, it would pull choke open at full right lock of bars.

I was looking at the Genmar but they cost $200 AUD delivered here in Australia, but I just found these ones on Amazon and they look just as good but they don't have the semicircular bit at the bottom to fill up the hole. Doesn't look like a bit deal and less than half the price, $85 delivered, but for some reason that I cannot fathom it says in the description that it's not suitable for the 2009 model GS500, but that doesn't make sense to me. I have the 2010. Anyway do you think these amazon ones will fit OK?

I have the Motech risers and didn't have to reroute anything.
