Hi Guys, we got 19*C here in southern Ontario this week, have to make the most of it. This summer since July to end of Sept i did 9,000km just around here. I keep a good eye on my oil, and found it using up about 500ml every 1,000Km or so.
Is this normal? I have no leaks on the bike.
That consumption seems a bit high...
What do the spark plugs look like?
Any other symptoms?
Blue smoke out exhaust? During acceleration? Deceleration?
Maybe do a compression test?
Keep a few quarts in the saddle bag....just keep adding until something really goes bad?
How many miles on the bike?

There's a large number of variables that all contribute to oil consumption, but i agree 500ml per 1000km seems a little high.
What's the history of the bike?
Is it burning or is it evaporating?........they are two totally different scenarios.
If its burning there will be evidence, blue smoke, drips from the pipe, dirty plugs etc.
Evaporation is more difficult to detect as there are no obvious physical signs but if you are using cheapish dino oil and using the bike hard for long periods in high temps its likely.
Try changing the oil in favour of a high quality synth like Mobil1 or Shell advance that is not as prone to evaporation, if you don't see an improvement its safe to assume the issue lies elsewhere.
