Well, I'm an idiot...I was riding along I-90 this evening in the express lanes doing about 90 mph when my lanes merged with the regular traffic. Everyone was going so s-l-o-w, and I was thinking, "what...is there a cop around here or something?" I rode on for a couple of more miles, passing *everyone*, when I saw the flashing lights in my mirrors.
For a second I was convinced the cop was going to pass me, but as I pulled over, so did he. I think he was surprised to see a girl when I pulled of my helmet. "Do you know how fast you were going?" "no" "Are you in a hurry?" "Well, it's cold and I was hoping to get home quickly for a hot tea."
He let me off with only a warning - thankfully! Damn...I think it would have been a pricy ticket (30 miles over the speed limit). I'll slow down...especially at night - that's not the smartest way to ride anyway. I'm going to sign up for track days too - so I can get this outta my system safely. It's nice to have a sympathetic cop every now and then.
Still, he said he was following me "since the tunnel" (that was three miles away - and I didn't notice him back there - oops!)
you're so lucky!
girls got it easy...
yeah girls got it easy.. esp hot girls.. i mean i have seen your pic.. your attractive..
bah if i was doing it... i would have gotten a nice ticket on my record (so far that is clean.. yay radar detector).
At least you only got a warning, this guy's an even bigger idiot, he got lots of tickets...
Police nab 220km/h harbour tunnel biker (http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/02/17/1076779949183.html) :nono:
what does 220km/h translate to in mph?
too lazy and dumb to do the conversion :nana:
Damn, I wonder when they're gonna go after the "Ghostrider" I'd like to see that chase!!!!

true dat. i got pulled over on I-70 by brazil, IN, for 85 in a 65. i was on my way to school. Cop asked where I was going in such a hurry. I said school. He said "Well, you're gonna be late." now, if i was a hot chick, or maybe if the cop was ghey, i might have gotten out of it. just goes to show,
BOOBS RULE!!
Well, it worked this time (boobs? smile? I'm not sure what - prolly the smile, since I was bundled up ;) ). But I might not be so lucky next time. And to think I was debating whether to get an R6...now *that* would get me into trouble. No, I like my GS...but we'll be on the track for sure this summer!
were you in leathers? leathers make any girl hot, and tend to spawn dominatrix-esque fantasies... Is your picture on the wall of fame? I'm working on getting mine up, but the only digicam i have access to saves BMPs, the only photoeditor i have access to doesn't have net access. so it'll take a while...
Yeah - I'm in the hall of fame ;) (although I should be moved to the hall of shame after last night's goof). I wasn't in leathers...sorry :( I *was* wearing full gear, tho, as always.
I agree about the leathers look tho - I wore a pvc outfit to a party last fall (long story) and guys kept telling me I intimidated them. If you knew me, you'd laugh. I'm the biggest pushover...totally not intimidating!
Now git yer picture up on the site! Pronto!
For those of you too lazy to scan through the Wall of Fame (or who don't know how... ), follow this link to vegbiker's pic (http://www.gstwin.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=member_pics&id=abu).

So Jean! Did you end up deciding that you like Cavaliers so much that you bought one?
I heard that at 90 mph on 65 freeway they can impound your vehicle. Can someone confirm this? What exactly are the penalties for speeding on freeway and on local? About a week ago I was doing more than 100 on a 35 mph road. I stopped for a car (single lane)

I might be wrong saying this, but it is funny to me that everytime a woman posts anything there are about 400% more replys. This place is as bad as a teen chat...."A.S.L.? ur hot! brb gotta pic"
Mark
No Mark, you're right.
That men & women thing, phew!
I didn't mean it about the Cavalier jab (well, maybe a little bit :P ). But they were out of cars and I had a reservation so the people in line were getting the next available cars. To drive off in a mustang convertable when you paid for a economy ride would have been great! The couple ahead of me had good karma (no pun intended).
And yeah...I was on another forum (is that cheating?) and some girl wrote, "I'm new to the area and here's a picture of me on my bike." There was a picture of some hot chick in a bikini sitting on a gixxer. Well, she had, like, 400 replies. All from guys writing, "well, if you want to ride with me sometime..." LOL!
But this is a *serious* thread! I could have gotten is big trouble! What is the penalty, btw, for 30 mph over? Ticket price? Impound? Wreckless charge? Damn, my insurance would have been through the roof!
Well I got my first speeding ticket last year in 2002 Dodge Neon ACR. Going 92 in a 70. 22 mph over. It turned out to be a $156 dollar ticket. My insurance was just renewed this month, and its dropped $20 a month. maybe becuase I'll be 25 in June? Maybe a dropped alot, then they hiked it up becuase of the ticket, and the result is a $20/month don't know.
I have gotten out of several speeding tickets before by just showing my concealed weapons permit. :) Most of the time if you pull over without any problems, they will be lenient and you may just get a slap on the wrist.
price of tickets depends on the county, city and state... in most cases they either have block fines or mileage fines or combination. By block fine, if you were pulled over 10 over, you pay so much + court fees and stuff.. if you are 20 over you pay a bit more. In other cases you pay per excess mph.. in which case it can add up really fast.
In generally if your over 35 mph cops can pull you over for reckless endangerment. (90 in a 55). In CA if you hit 100 and get pulled over its an automatic revokation of your licence. Also in CA street racing is a crime and your licence can be revoked..
Jean you probably were looking at about 250-300 dollars for 35 over..
:)
Quote from: The_good_guyJean you probably were looking at about 250-300 dollars for 35 over..
Of course, if your speedo said 90 you were probably really going around 81. (10% low)
(http://www.tlplanet.com/forums/images/smilies/bigfinger.gif), an i thought i was lucky. i was stopped by phoenix police, (i was trying to catch a rider, i was in my cage, was stopped on bell rd, doing 78 in a 35, didnt have my reg, didnt have my ins. card, was let go with a verbal warning. in that town that was looking at jail time :nono: wont do that again :x
the only thing i ever got off with a warning for was a written warning for cracked windshield, and a verbal warning for dice in the mirror (I was feeling ghetto-ish in my small town). but i only got those warnings cuz they were a package deal with a no insurance ticket, which i weaseled my way out of...
No Insurance? Yikes - that'll get ya in trouble.
I forgot that the speedo is 10% off on the GS - that's good to keep in mind. I wasn't really looking at it tho. The cop told me how fast he was going as he followed me for 4 miles
Hi VB,
I commute I-90 each day from 405 to Snoqualmie. If You travel this section, you should have already known better. :nono: The police are often thick aren't they?
I have a radar detector for the Subaru. I wonder if I could mount it on the bike?
90 or so on your GS500 is serious speeding. Don't wear that little thing out!
I'll wave if I see a GS heading the other way.
OS
PS (The fact that you were bundled up just gave the guy more of a reason to fantasize about what's underneath. Sadly, we're (men) all like that you know.)
Quote from: vegbikerWhat is the penalty, btw, for 30 mph over? Ticket price?
I had a 25-over ticket when I was 18. My insurance jumped by $700/year for about 3 years. It would've been cheaper in the long run if they'd have just taken my car and left me alone on the side of the road. I've had a car towed and impounded, and I think it was maybe $120 for a night... small potatoes compared to the insurance cost.
I think with a 35-over moving violation, you'd probably be shopping for a Bajaj 50cc in no-time, or else be paying $100/month to ride on the street. On the bright side, you could still race the GS at the track.
QuoteI have gotten out of several speeding tickets before by just showing my concealed weapons permit.
This begs an explanation... :?
Is there a good story behind this comment? Should I start keeping my weapon permit and my NRA card under my license? I'll pack an RPG on the back of my bike if it'll get me out of a ticket!!!
This is really off topic, but reading this thread and a few others, I have come to realize that there are a lot of new people on the forum! Its excellent to see. I cant believe how many posts some of these folks have, and I havnt even noticed! Am I crazy, or do any of the other old school (like from a year ago) members notice this too?
By the way Veg, nice work on theticket! Did you take your helmet off and run your hands through your hair? I bet thats what you did. I know I would. Everytime I try flirting with a cop, I usually get a ticket, maybe cause Im a hetero male hitting on a hetero male,a nd thats just not right, but worth a chance I figure.
put it this way "girl you got lucky"!!! :thumb: (might have to find other places to open-er-up :thumb:
I DO know better - especially on I-90. I think there are special radar detectors for bikes...However, I like the cooncealed weapon permit idea. Can I get a permit to carry around even if I don't have a weapon (I'm Canadian, we don't pack heat - lol!). Seriously, what is the benefit and how do cops know you have the permit?

There is more of the instant kind... like join up make a bunch of posts asking about the GS and then sell the GS and leave. I think. The core population/nature has sorta remained the same.
Cool.
Srinath.
well, i, for one, plan to stick around as long as you'll let me...

I think you are correct Srinath. I guess there are like 50 members or something who are relativley old school, and have consistant posting habits. You and Pantablo are more addicts than habitual, but thats okay.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I will not go silently into the night!!! I still haven't got the gel seat!!!
Threadjack in progress... woooowoooowoooo!!!!! :nana:
QuoteThe states that recognize SC permits are: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wyoming.
Holy crud!!! My PA permit is recognized by 13 other states... NONE of which border PA!!!! how f'ed up is that?!... man, I miss the south.
NC was just added August 2003. TN must be fairly new as well. Only if GA and FL, then I would have the southeast covered. I hear a SC-FL recip may be in the works. I spend a fair amount of time in FL cavediving and track days. Interesting that SC only recognizes permits from Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Wyoming.
I found a lot of this info on //www.packing.org
Which tunnel veg? That's probably a speed trap. I've seen people pulled over right there (where I think your talking about) before.
I was followed for 4 miles - totally clueless to the cop behind me
He saw me as I was heading Eastbound in the I-90 express lanes coming out of the Mercer Island tunnel. He didn't put on his lights until after I went under I-405. I was making my way to the right lanes (to exit at 148th) when he pulled me over. I was parked on the shoulder across from Bellevue Honda. That area is so bad for speed traps - I was just tempting fate by racing through.

It also comes in waves, seasonally...even still, good to see the ol' GS is a steady ride in many people's mind. At least no one comes on here and asks if an R1 is a good first bike.
slightly off topic... anyone knows of any radar detectors made specifically for motorcycles? i know bel has a cordless model with a motorcycle accesory, a reflector, for motorcycle use... well, you have to have a front pocket on your jacket to use it, and you can't hear it when you are going 3,000 rpm or higher. i've posted a thread on this earlier and no one seems to know of one, wondering if anyone's seen anything new since...
always reminding myself not to go *too much* faster than the flow of traffic when i'm zipping on the freeways for the sake of safetyness and my bank account!
In addition to the ones I mentioned in the other tread, there are modular ones, which are very expensive. You can easily adapt them to a bike. In fact I seem to remember a BMW touring bike that had one that you could hardly notice. I thing Bell sells one. Just do a google search, something will pop up.
