Title: Aftermarket brake light wiring scheme
Post by: broken26 on December 29, 2015, 06:37:30 PM
Hey, I'm changing my gs500 to more of a cafe racer type theme, and have done a whole bunch of modyfying the frame and changing things around. I've bought and change my indicators and now my brakelight came in the mail today and I'm at this predicament. I need to know which wires are what. Brakelight/ground/running,(on both gs500 stock and new) so I can figure out which wires to un-crimp and put the plugs onto the new brakelight.. And which plug should be inserted into the plastic holder from looking at it from the direction of the photo. Thanks.

Do a search for "gs500 wiring diagram". I don't think the wires changed for the brake light (all years). For the new wires, you'll need to find the negative / ground. Are they integrated led lights, or do they take 1157 bulbs?

Just from memory: stock ground wire is black / white, parking lights are brown, so brake lights are white / black. And there's a good chance that the black wire on the new light is the ground, but there's no guarantee unless you test it.

I managed to get the indicators in and now the new brakelight installed. At First the brakes were so bright hitting the brakes hardly did anything. I just switched the the two cables and now its brighter when I hit the brakes.

Now I just need to change the seat or get a new one and it will look a lot like a cafe racer style.
