Title: Gs500e project bike head swap question
Post by: SkyBob on January 08, 2016, 01:01:30 PM
So my 93' gs500e head is toast, can't be rebuilt, but the crankcase and pistons are good so my question is can I just swap any Gs500 engine head on it no matter what the year is? Like an 06? Thanks

Yes they are interchangeable, I put a 94 head on a 2003.

Not totally interchangeable!

On the 04's+ they changed over to an electronic tach that pulls its signal off of the coils.

The older ones are mechanical and run off of the camshaft via a port in the front of the head.

So if you go with a newer head, you will have to replace the tach with a newer electronic model.

I learned this the hard way.
