what year the cable from the twist grip to the carbs changed to dual cables?

The first generation carbs used a single cable, so maybe in 2001 when they switched to 3 circuit carbs they also went with push / pull cables? An online parts diagram can show you what year they started for sure.
First time poster and I know this is an old thread but I've recently bought a 2007 GS500 as a learner bike for the wife and it's in need of a lot of work that I'm slowly working on.
I'm trying to work out why there is no tension on the second throttle cable and is it supposed to have a long tail at the throttle tube end? If I push it in with the throttle closed and apart it slackens off at the carbi, and starts to curl up, is this normal? If I pull on it, it does nothing it's rock solid. It's almost like it doesn't need to be there?
check in the carb butterfly for tension on both cables
The front cable opens the carb butterfly and the rear one closes the carb butterfly. Both need to be there and should be adjusted to allow for about 2mm throttle free play.
It is rock solid because the butterfly is closed.
Thanks for that, I ended up playing with them as they weren't set right. After some fiddling I concluded I needed to have like you say about 2mm of freeplay or the throttle wouldn't close off fast enough.
Getting there slowly with this bike but I seem to be finding more issues as I get further along, but that's a different discussion already taking place.
