My 2007 gs500f has been leaking fork oil through my seals and cover for a bit now, and I need to replace them.
I have gone over many fork seal installation threads on here and looked in depth how to replace fork seals.
But I cannot find out what type of fork seal I'm looking for to buy and a dust cover. Are all fork seals for gs500 years the same? on Bike bandit there is only listed for a 2000 suzuki gs500e and I have a 2007 gs500f. Also on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Pyramid-Parts-Fork-Dust-Seals/dp/B00E3DTVXW/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1452852406&sr=1-2&keywords=gs500+fork+seal) a combo for forkseal and cover, in the description it says "A Pair of Fork Oil Seals & Fork Dust Seals to Fit: Suzuki GS500 E to F 2001 to 2005" makes me believe I need to find a year specific version.
Will it work out? Do most bike shops carry fork seals and do all for seals for other bikes work as well. Browsing other stores online, like cyclegear they have none listed. Also dust covers are hard to find.
Can anyone enlighten me on which brands/ bikes/years I can buy a forkseal and dustcover for? Also links to websites would be MUCH appreciated.

get the seal and the dust cover as a set....almost impossible to find the dust covers sold separately state side without going to the dealer.
Where can i buy them. Are they universal and do year versions of gs500 matter?

Not trying to sound ungrateful or mean. But have you read at all what I posted. Those fork seals in the description lost those for up to the 2002 model of the gs500. My main question is will those work on 2007 gs500f, are thre universal swapable etc..
The original forks leak cos the thing has too much wear. In the world of oil seals, that seal to stanchion interference should be much much more than the original size, and the thing has worn enough to never seal up.
Some tricks I have seen and none of these are feasible on a cost effective basis -
Take out the bushings and re-coat Teflon on them. Yea doable, but its like a $30-40 job - and likely wont work without the next step.
If you have a bunch of seals sitting around in slightly over and under size - you can hand fit one for that leg.
These 2 in conjunction would be possible solution and there is a place here that will do both - however not cheap and still not guaranteed to work ... cos our forks also get spots of rust. So till the first rust spec shown and rips open the seal, it may work. I didn't do any of this, I swapped to kat forks, that are rather a lot better made.

I still don't even know if gs500 00-04 seals will work on my 07. And I don't know where to buy them or dust covers either.... =(
If you had read the link posted by gsJack you would have seen the discussion that any GS500 fork seals are likely to work in all years, even though the fork design was changed slightly in 2004.
Be wary of Pyramid Parts fork seals. I've had very mixed results with them. (Some I've used have leaked from new in spite of meticulous assembly). Get genuine Suzuki ones is my tip.
... no no no! .. Jools. . Let them learn! .... buy the "pyraShiz" parts seals, fit them, find out personally that they are really dreadful, buy oem seals and fit them with much better results and finally vow to never go PyraShiz Parts seals ever ever ever EVER! again!

Before replacing the seals you need to find out why they failed. If there is an underlying problem........ and there usually is......... it wont be long before you are buying and fitting another set and blaming the first ones for being shaZam!.
The slightest and I mean SLIGHTEST imperfection with the chrome can soon ruin a seal, even something the size of a pinprick can be enough. Look very very closely at the swept area for distortion and damage.
A good tip is to stretch a pair of nylon tights and then pass them over the tubes, they will snag if there is something there

You fit the whole FE triples etc etc all the way to the wheel (GS wheel is the same but kat wheel has 2 280 mm disks, GS gas 1 300mm)
89-95 kat 600 are ideal. But all yrs of kat 6 FE's work, Kat 750 is also OK but you need to use the 600's top triple.
