Title: Seat/tank/frame compatibility between years.
Post by: TQM on February 02, 2016, 04:33:10 AM
Hi all. First post, will prob' be quite a few more as I get into my rebuild project.

Sorry if this is a question that's been asked before but will the later model tank/seat/rear-plastics (2001+) bolt directly onto a mid 90s frame? If not; what changed/moved and is it a particularly big job to move the mounts/fab new parts to fit them on?

Cheers, TQM

Hey,

I actually had a similar more general version of your question (link below). One of the respondents said that most things should be fairly interchangeable except for tank/seat/plastics. He says those things started to change after 2000. Hopefully you get some more detailed responses but I thought this would be a good start for you.

Ha, yeah, thanks. I noticed your question which is what prompted me to stop lurking, get my thumb out of my arse, and actually start posting questions. My mid 90s plastics/tank are completly gone and the seat's pretty much buggered so if it's possible to transplate a later set over without too much hassle I'm thinking that might be an easier route.

Well best of luck :)

1989 - 2000 all have the original tank, seat, and rear plastic design. Any of these years will fit your frame without modification.

2001 and 2002 have the bigger tank, seat and rear plastics but still naked

2004-2009 same as 01/02 but with front plastics added

This is for the US. Other countries might be different.
