Hi, i changed engine oil yesterday and once i finished the bike did not start. I warmed the oil a bit before changing it so it was working properly before the change. It looks like it's flooded. I tried with the petcock on ON, RES and PRI.
I changed the battery due to oxide on the positive terminal and nothing changed.
It made 2 big "explosions" from the exhaust using the starter.
I tried playing with differents choke positions, nothing changes.
I tried to jump start it but the clutch doesn't disengage, i pull the lever and there is a lot of engine brake trying to push the bike. I tried to push it for 50 meters with 1st gear in and nothing changed...
If i could turn the engine on this wouldn't be an issue since i could let the engine warm up on the center stand.
Do any of you know which could be the problem? And how can i solve it? :technical: :technical: :technical:

Ok, i tried a pair of old spark plugs and it started. Now i'll try to solve the problem i have with the clutch!
What is the viscosity of the oil you used, and how much did you add?

I used 3L (manual says 2.9 with oil filter) of Motul 7100 MA2 10W40, i used it before and i've changed oil before :)
I tried the spark plugs i removed at the 4000 miles maintenance (they were 12 years old...) and they worked.
Then i've let the engine to warm up a bit, put her on the center stand with the first gear in and the clutch lever fully pulled i used the rear brake to fix the clutch problem, then everything was ok!
I don't know why and it's a bit weird, but i had to screw in the idle screw because it wouldn't idle at all.
Weird is that i had to do the same thing some weeks ago after i topped up the oil level.
Definitely weird. I'll end up having the bike full throttle to just have it to idle correctly :icon_lol:
That is really weird. I've no idea how that happened. Wow! Does the choke work?!
I had a situation where I let the motorcycle sit for several weeks (months?) and it seemed like the clutch wasn't disengaging but it was only because the clutch plates were stuck together (due to lack of use) once I started the engine the plates freed up.
I got really worried, I thought I had busted the clutch release mechanism and spent a bunch of time re-adjusting the clutch and even purchased a new release mechanism...
It is normal for there to be drag on the clutch when pushing the motorcycle in gear (with the clutch pulled in) while cold.
It's 23:30 on 14 February and the temp outside is 29C. It occurs to me I've no idea how a truly cold bike behaves. What you say does make sense.
Every time I change my oil, I get the new oil good and hot then take all the freeplay out of the lever then tie it back to the grip overnight, my bikes drop into gear much quieter than any of my friends. Believe it or not :dunno_black:

I keep the lever tied back some times too.
29c in the middle of the night, sounds nice enough but I hate to see what it is like during the day!

Yes, it works. But the engine is running too rich, i have 22.5 pilots with only a k&n filters, i'm looking for some 20s but i have to buy them from germany or US, i'll have to spend like 30$ for just 2 jets.
This is why the engine did not start, spark plugs were dirty and wet.

Yeah i know, but it requires just a little effort to move. I had to push like i was pushing a 2000lbs car!
But the main problem were spark plugs, once i started the engine it's been easy to solve the clutch one :)
I'll try to keep the lever tied the next time!
